My parents found these in my deceased uncle's garage without any useful accompanying information. He was a bit of a hoarder, but usually of only free things, not known for purchasing antiques

This is the winner. Curtains go on them like this: image

Well, shit. Now I want my curtains hanging on swing arms. Compared to that, sliding hanging rings on a horizontal pole just seems primitive.

Right?? I'm going to ask if I can inherit them

Does the tip pull out to slide on the curtain? And so it can be rotated so both match?

I'll not sure, once I get my hands on them I'll report back

The small rod at the top makes me think that it fits somewhere holding the entire pole horizontal. The small gap in the circle suggests that it is supposed to allow something to go through and the hooked tip might be holding whatever is hanging from the pole.

Like an ornate top pole for a banner flag.

Ah, that's a good point. I noticed those at the top as well. He did live in an old house, I can imagine them on each side of a window or something

Looks like a fire pit poking stick. But I can be really far off

I was thinking that as well, though wood seems like a bad idea, and not much of a handle. I wonder if it's notable that the pokey bits are on opposite sides

The hooks on the end going in opposite directions compared to the ornamental looking loops is throwing me

[-] greenhorn@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Same. There are certain parts on the ornamental end that looks like they attach to something else

It reminds me the bow of a string instrument with everything wrong.

The ancient Egyptians used this to remove the brain through a nostril during mumification.
