I think you'll find it's the ideology of being an American is where they're at. Like being in the American Dream. Unlike the reality of being in the US, both ideas hold the state of freedom, so he's just putting his head in the sand and going there.

Hell, he might not even be named Lee Greenwood at this point but he is when he's an American and the idea is bluring with reality, so he just thinks and says he's Lee Greenwood.

Edit: Okay, I know nothing about this guy but Wiki'd him and his name is Melvin. So apparently I'm correct. Dude's writing about his happy place.

That song always makes me laugh because it sounds like a child arguing. Yeah pretty much everything about your country is better, but at least I know I'm free!!!!!!
