Hello, aquarium enthusiasts!

I live in Washington DC and have a 25 million liter short rimless fish tank which I'd like to stock with plants and animals. Annoyingly, it's only about 45cm deep at the shallow ends, so I'm not sure what would work best.

It's also outdoors, and obviously a bit too large to move. Please help! The algae is going NUTS, so I'd like to prevent that. Plecos? Saltwater? Idk, this kind of isn't my field of expertise and my cabinet is really busy with this whole "Texas secessionist movement" bullshit.

Well what's your filter situation looking like? You got like a sump and pump system going on to keep the water moving right?

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 5 points 4 hours ago

A couple years before the revolution, the parks service built a water treatment plant just to feed water into this thing from the Potomac, but it's still just stagnant because they wanted the surface to be still like glass. Ridiculously wasteful, stupid engineering the CPSA inherited when we took control.

Oh I see. And there's no surface turbulence from the wind? I'm sure you could do something low flow or off to the sides that barely anyone will notice. Besides, small disturbances from plumbing will smooth out from a modest distance for pictures or whatever.

Beats algae blooms :' )

throw some colloidal silver into it

You're sitting on a goldmine, and you don't even realize it! So many unique marketing opportunities, just off the top of my head:

  • Fill little pendants with the swamp water, and sell it to MAGA hogs with some kind of "9/11 never forget"-style platitude, but with the ~~reflecting pool~~ fish tank in place of the towers (with a smoke cloud-shaped crowd of ANTIFA pouring communist chemicals into the water)
  • Do the same thing but fill little donald trump-shaped containers with drumpf did this and sell it to liberals (MAGA hogs might also buy this tbh)
  • Get RFK to say the water has healing properties or some shit, then bottle and sell it

Sorry, I don't know what a MAGA hog is. Is that a breed of swine? Anti fascists are among my primary voting bloc so I don't really have any intention of alienating them, especially given the recent tension with the secessionist so-called "Republic of Texas."

Donald Trump, the stand-up comedian? I watched his new special on Blockbuster@Home, it was... Fine. I don't generally like male comedians, men just aren't funny to me. I did think the part about his diagnosis of dementia was pretty good, reminded me of my grandmother's decline.

RFK died in the 60s, so again, I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

Drain it. Clean it. Fill it with clear resin. All in one go. stalin-approval

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 6 points 7 hours ago

Could work, might be a good photo op for tourists to pretend they're walking on water?

[-] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

It'll be the hottest photo op in town. blob-on-fire

Fill it with gel and turn it into an antquarium

[-] SwagliacciTheBadClown@hexbear.net 6 points 6 hours ago

Wait holy fuck these are called Melania!?!?!?

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 4 points 6 hours ago

I don't get the connection, sorry.

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 4 points 6 hours ago

I'm a bit concerned about them accidentally being introduced into natural waterways. Is that a potential problem, DC doesn't get that cold in the winter.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 10 points 7 hours ago

Shrimp, lots and lots of shrimp, and maybe a sucker fish.

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 8 points 7 hours ago

I found the number for an aquarium store in Cleveland Park on AltaVista, but I called and asked if they could do 100 million cherry shrimp but the guy said no.

[-] copandballtorture@hexbear.net 7 points 7 hours ago

Maybe skip the plants and animals and just crank the heat up to make a mega hot tub

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 6 points 7 hours ago

National Memorial Hot Tub, this might be a winner!

[-] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 7 points 7 hours ago

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 7 points 7 hours ago

In aquascaping, it's important to work with negative space!

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 6 points 7 hours ago

45cm is not very deep for a fish tank. You should make your fish tank a lot deeper.

If you want to say your fish tank is more splendid than the ones at doctors' offices, you're at least going to have to make it 120 cm deep.

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 6 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

It's about 75cm deep in the middle, does this help?

Also I can't make it deeper because it's in the ground, so I guess it's more of a fish pond than a fish tank?

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 6 points 7 hours ago

Bring out your bulldozers and get to work.

You don't want people to have a reason to say your fish tank is "dimensionally challenged", do you?

[-] POTUSS@hexbear.net 5 points 7 hours ago

It's also a "historic monument" or some bullshit so the mayor won't let me do jack shit.
