He was a complicated man.

This is one of the last photos taken of him when he was completely consumed by mental illness. Quite disturbing in a way.

Oh no, this picture reminds me a lot about myself...

At least he can always breathe fresh hair.

important question for hipsters: did anyone get away without a covid mask by claiming their soup strainer was anti-viral?

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 20 points 16 hours ago

You beat me.

I was just going to post that back in the day that kind of facial hair was called a 'soup strainer.'

Interestingly (to me, because I’m a science nerd) studies showed just after those gator masks started showing up that anything that touches your mouth and has holes bigger than pathogens you’re trying to filter out make you MORE prone to catching the pathogen compared to just not having it, because the moisture from your breath collects on the fabric and that moisture collects the pathogens and then encourages infection as it holds it near or on your mucosal membranes and oral cavity. So I’d suspect the same applies to a mustache that hangs over your mouth.

So this isn’t to relitigate if masks work or not, they absolutely do. The study showed that professionally designed masks are the only thing that works and anything suboptimal actually increases your risk of infection. So wear real masks, dummies, not propaganda you saw on YouTube, Facebook and Fox News.

Mine's like mourinho wool though, it has all sorts of natural oils and ecosystemic stuff that either dissuades the virus, or causes it to hang out and party.

More seriously i thought the masks were not to protect the wearer but to protect others from their breath. That's why selfish fuck holes didn't want to wear them. If it protected them they might have considered it more carefully.

The craziest part was they were actively killing their family members, especially their parents, and contracting long covid in many cases, which gives you literal brain damage and quite often produced diabetes where there was none before. Like good job, asshat, you played yourself while you made some political stance that didn’t change your life for the better even an ounce.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 13 hours ago

Masks also protect the wearer.

This actually follows with facial rashes and the like too. The Scandinavians discovered this when they were exploring their far north a long time ago, being clean shaven leads to less problems with your skin on your face.

The Tamil equivalent of “you can’t have your cake and eat it” translates literally as “you can’t have the moustache and eat the soup”

[-] Digit@lemmy.wtf 2 points 13 hours ago

yes you can.
