I know the joke is already old but it's crazy how similar current US is to Idiocracy. The reality tv star pedophile president is building a wrestling cage, the minister of education is wrestling fantasy network CEO lmao the reality is so unserious.

If anyone thinks this is not peak decline of an empire I really don't know how. If not for all people that are hurt by this change it would be funny and I wish I didn't care because say what you want - this is incredibly entertaining. If I was a human hating alien I wouldn't skip a single US episode.

Hey, the best way to defund the oligarchy is to live a frugally as possible, cancel all your subscriptions, buy the least branded, least advertised bulk products you can. Don’t buy from major chains when you can avoid it. Turn on an ad blocker, or even better adnauseam.

If you can’t get some digital media direct from the artists, pirate it. Fuck the ethics discussion, any money you spend through an app store or through a major subscription service is quietly getting funneled to this shit.

Deny them your dollars and put your money away till things improve. Be a consumer on strike if that’s the least you can do.

ethics went out the window when corporations kept price fixing and bribing politicians for covering their crimes.

[-] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

“Rules for thee but not for me” the oligarchs say.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Been a pirate since 98. Had about 10 seconds total guilt in that time.

We shouldn't be having a 250th birthday party for the nation.

We should be having a funeral.

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 19 hours ago

I don't expect this to do well and I'm really looking forward to it failing. Of course the Orange Jackass will brag about how successful is regardless, but that's because what passes for his brain is stuck in a loop.

Interm titles are not real titles.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Worshipping pedophiles and watching grown men smash each others faces in is more important to Americans than living.

Change my mind.

The taxPAYers

It's in your job description. Don't complain /s

The bread has gone stale and the circus is lame

[-] Furbag@pawb.social 10 points 1 day ago

All we need is a NASCAR event on the White House lawn and the circus will be complete - modern gladiator battles and modern chariot races? How could the plebians possibly be upset?

[-] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

There is gonna be a Indy car on the streets of DC around the 4th of July too. They made “special” shirts that were pulled for being controversial.

Wait - there is a literal Ultimate Fighting event? Or have I been duped by the comments? Cuz that’d be the trashiest thing ever. Last person I personally knew who went to the White House 2 yrs ago was chastised for wearing open toed shoes, this is a whole new low for such a previously sacred place.

[-] paranoia@feddit.dk 53 points 1 day ago

Yes, there is a literal UFC event at the US Presidential Residence.

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

Oh my god the US has reached levels of cringe previously undocumented

No idiocracy had the idiots open to look for who they thought would be an expert to help them out of their situation.

[-] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

There is nothing wrong with hosting a sporting event there. My issue is what this represents.

[-] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 27 points 1 day ago

Who’s paying

They voted it in

This is the US to its core. Half the other sides voters will subscribe to this pay per view.

Trump is a symptom.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

All the people who didn’t vote for him get to pay to line his pockets.

The people who did vote for him are rich grifters who don’t pay taxes or poor dumbasses who don’t make enough to pay taxes.

President Comancho going to make an appearance?

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 18 hours ago

I bet Terry Crews could get an invite, and I bet they wouldn't recognize his costume from the movie and would actually think it's patriotic. I wish he'd go there as President Comancho.

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

It’d be sick if this was actually Terry Crews replying.

[-] blackjam_alex@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

He's too good for this tackiness.

[-] TomMasz@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

Does anyone not know the answer to this question? It's just like it was in the feudal era. If you saw something being built, it was either for the church or the king and you paid for it.

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I believe the term is "rhetorical question".

[-] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Next up, we turn The Ellipse into the Circus Maximus. I mean, it's already got the right shape for the chariot races.

[-] krisevol@lemmus.org 6 points 1 day ago

It's paid for by the UFC. The UFC can afford it because paramount. Paramount can afford it because we pay them every month.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

[-] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

And Paramount is owned by Larry Ellison. A big Trump supporter and donator.

Also his kids each own a big Hollywood studio. His daughter owns Annapurna and his son Skydance. So if you bought a Annapurna videogame you donated to their cause.

I haven't followed the UFC for years since I realized that Dana White was an evil man and the UFC is an exploitative organization which abuses all of its fighters.

But I am guessing that this event will be on Pay-Per-View like most of their events, and so the UFC will cover the construction costs.

But at for who is paying for it, I would argue that all Americans are paying for it as a weakening of the Constitution, as Presidents historically can't favor any specific private company using the White House, which if I remember correctly, are laws related to the emoluments clause of the Constitution.

And all humans everywhere are paying for it as a strike against basic human dignity and the progress of civilization. We're back in Ancient Roman times watching gladiators fight in the Colosseum.

[-] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

If Trump is involved, the answer is always taxpayers. This is an expense to taxpayers, even if UFC pays for parts of this. Staffing, security, utilities - WH budget.

It's not even a real sport. It figures Trump's favorite sport would be two guys beating each other senseless. He's nothing short of the American Caligula. He'd have them fight to the death, if he thought he could get away with it.

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Camacho was a way better president than the shit stain you have now.

[-] normalentrance@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

Go away, I'm baitin

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

That'll get trump all revved up for his post-fight, tween adventure. /s
