120$ and beating all predecessors? Why the hell has gaming become this important to people’s lives?

[-] LumiNocta@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 days ago

Escape from reality. $120 is a lot less than buying and keeping any of the cars in the game.

That. And it's safer.

It's probably alot more than that but definitely escaping reality.

[-] corey931@lemmy.wtf 2 points 5 days ago

True that and I like the occasional car game as well. Definitely cheaper. Personally, I just find it crazy how much game prices have increased over the last couple years.

And the gaming market has grown quite a bit, so that’s why they can do it I guess? Idk. And are people escaping more in general these days or are people simply escaping differently, so watching less TV etc? Would be interesting to learn about actually but maybe that’s a different discussion

[-] flandish@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago

120? For a game that will melt systems? For a game not yet done?

We have got to stop this horseshit. Early access is fine for a small team, solo dev, etc. Especially if it’s early access prices. But this?! Fuck no.

[-] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

To clarify: it’s not ‘early access’ as in an unfinished mess.

It’s early access, because the premium edition lets you play four days earlier. The base version of the game releases monday, but if you bought the premium version with the future DLC, you got to play it on friday as an added bonus.

But yes, agreed, ‘early access’ as in selling unfinished games needs to stop. It’s an incentive for devs to take the money and run.

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

5 was pretty buggy for a few weeks when it launched

[-] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Never experienced bugs myself with 5, but I know others did. 6 has been a perfectly smooth game for the 11 hours I’ve played it so far 👍

I tend to be lucky that way. And I always play games on proper within-spec hardware with updated drivers and such, which does help.

[-] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 3 points 6 days ago

Also, a racing game without VR support? What is even the point of that.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Assetto Corsa ftw

[-] 1984@lemmy.today 15 points 6 days ago

120 dollars for a game!

[-] magnue@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

Always wanted to try Forza but I've never ever seen it on sale at a reasonable price.

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

I bought Forza Horizon 4 on sale for $20 last year. I think it came with all the DLC or whatever. That seemed like a good price. I played a bunch and I'd say it was worth it. The game really pushes you to pay more money to buy more things, but I just ignored it.

Overall $20 felt right.

I'd buy Forza Horizon 6 or whatever for $20 in a few years.

[-] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago

In bought forza 4 last year too.. but I had to buy it from a third party code seller, as it was removed from storefronts for no apparent reason. It's such a good game, pulling it was a dumb move.

[-] Fl1ppyR34@ani.social 2 points 5 days ago

Don't call it forza 4, it makes me and everyone else who played Motorsport 4 feel old...

Though both the real forza 4, horizon 4 and every other forza that had a digital release pre-horizon 5 got removed was just due to expiring licenses for some of the cars and the music. Considering they usually only last 4 years on digital storefronts, with fh4 getting culled after 6 years, I'd give fh5 another year and a half before they stop selling it.

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

they pull all forzas, because of some license agreements

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

you can now try the earlier ones with xenia (horizon 1 is cringe inducing for me, but the driving is good, motorsport is a gran turismo ripoff, but more forgiving, especially with rewind)

[-] Stiggyman@ani.social 2 points 6 days ago

Yeah at most you get 50%

[-] Poopfeast420@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

FH4 was heavily discounted before it was removed from stores (because of license deals), so FH5 will most likely get the same treatment, although it might take a few more years (and FH6 much later after that).

[-] scala@lemmy.ml -2 points 6 days ago

I tried the last one on $1 game pass. Came back after a few months, everything was locked behind DLC. never again sail the seas. Never loose content

[-] jedibob5@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

As someone who played a lot of FH5 on Game Pass, that never happened. The DLCs added new content, they never took away existing content and locked it behind the DLC. You must have misunderstood something.

I just had an idiot defend this kind of model because people should be free to spend their money in whatever they want and realized that the videogame market we have is the videogame market we deserve.

This kind of stunts keep happening because people not only allow but incentivize them by rewarding the ones making them. I'm so lucky to be a patient gamer without an interest for the AAA market...

[-] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 1 points 5 days ago

Man I am mostly an indie gamer and retro achiever but I fuckin love Forza and can't wait to play this. Forza Horizons 5 was my first Forza game and it was delightful. The voice acting and music and cars just all made life feel like a party and honestly I could use some of that escapism right now. Can't wait for the "normie" release. Gotta go fast.

[-] byte_0verflow@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

Who is paying for early access?

[-] Joelk111@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Very few people. It's included with the ultimate edition.

[-] byte_0verflow@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

It was mostly meant to refer to the leaked build and the cracked versions of the game, thanks for the insight however

[-] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 0 points 6 days ago

I've 100% all 5 previous games. I'm not buying this.

[-] NebulaNomad@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago
[-] Menschlicher_Fehler@feddit.org 57 points 1 week ago

And that's why paying to access games a few days early will sadly stay, even though they are not paying to access early, they are paying to keep others out.

[-] absquatulate@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I guarantee the ones who paid 2x the value of the base game just for those 4 early days is a minority. Most people paid to get "the whole package" with dlc, car pass and whatnot, the 4 early days being just a welcome perk. But yes, sadly the early access bullshit is unlikely to go away - streamers will always want a head start and microsoft will happily charge them for it.

[-] Menschlicher_Fehler@feddit.org 12 points 1 week ago

If people would have rejected that whole idea of accessing early when it first came up, FH6 would still have been released today... for everyone. And honestly, paying for unreleased DLC doesn't make it better.

[-] absquatulate@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

"If all gamers stood together against this then we could've had the game(s) 4 days early" is fairly wild speculation, but I agree that between this, VIP packs, wheelspins and season passes FH does have its share of dark patterns.

[-] ISolox@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I got it for the expansions and such. The early access is a bonus though.

[-] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 week ago

Actually the game launched at 120 Dollars. And 4 days later game is on discount.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

I'm planning on getting the base game (after getting the top-tier version the last 3 releases) but not until the pgg minigames are added back, and hopefully yes it goes on sale when it drops for all users.

$70 is too much money for a game. $120 is absolutely insane.

Or you could just pirate the leaked version.

[-] iamthetot@piefed.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Can that version play online?

[-] ElectroLisa@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 6 days ago

Apparently yes

[-] magnue@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

🦗🦗🦗🦗

[-] Ghoelian@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 days ago

The fitgirl repack includes an online fix. Haven't tried it though.

[-] Hond@piefed.social 0 points 6 days ago

Yes.

A... friend played online before release on linux with a PS5 controller. It felt sick, he said.

[-] Stupendous@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

Again, it's not early access. It's the general release date. Anyone can get access for $120. It is a general release date

[-] corey931@lemmy.wtf 1 points 5 days ago

Yeah but why? I am worried about people if they’re willing to spend $120 on a video game

[-] LemmyBruceLeeMarvin@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago

No VR support. I'll stick to assetto

[-] lath@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

This is why boycotting fails for real issues, but succeeds for the dumbest imaginable.
