Only Republican gerrymandering is allowed now. - The Supreme Court, I guarantee.
“See, we are actually a constitutional republic and not a democracy. So thusly the REPUBLICans are correct and the DEMOCRAt’s are not, another win for justice and truth.” -Thomas prolly

As a Virginian, this has hit me hard.
I'm tired, boss.
We need to break out the guillotines and fucking fix it from the top down, and by the top, I mean the oligarchs spending all the money to corrupt most of our politicians. That's more important than ousting Republicans, although that would be the next fucking step.
:sigh:
But we're all not starving QUITE enough to get into the streets. They're fucking dumb, but they know they can only push us so far. And they're slowly pushing more and more and more to find that limit. And it's clear we're not there yet. We'll pay $10/gallon for gas and see our food prices double if it's over the next 2-3 years and we still won't riot, and more and more of the ones on the bottom lose housing, lose their lives for lack of medical care.
We're dying, but most of us are JUST comfortable enough and JUST precarious enough to be scared to riot.
Fuck all of this. I'm on dialysis. I might have a decade in me, but there's a good fucking chance I won't. I got double-screwed by this fucking country and it has greatly shortened my life. But I'm still lucky because I've almost always had housing, I've always had food sometimes with the help of a food bank, and even more lucky with some occasional help from my dad for emergencies. Yeah. 50 years old and I owe my dad thousands over the years for occasional "oh shit no car means I lose my job" help..........
It feels useless. I almost feel like giving up and stopping dialysis and saying fuck it, but I ain't gonna do that because the human body is surprisingly resiliant about wanting to live for as long as possible. And hey, I got food and right now I have decent medical care, and I even just got disability which will make it easier to scrape by each month until I'm dead.
But goddamn if this timeline doesn't suck.
we still won’t riot
They're not reporting this, but there are protests fucking everywhere this foul redistricting is happening. In South Carolina, twenty-three people lined up to speak against this -- and ZERO for it. And in Tennessee, Justin Pearson burnt a Confederate flag in the Tennessee State Capitol while others were in the streets. Every legislator involved in this is acting against the will of their constituents.
Media is not here to serve up actual news, much less to tell us the truth: it is billionaire propaganda there to feed us lies about our countrymen and neighbors, and to discourage any thought of lifting a finger that might make this harder for them. Which is probably why they're not full of articles talking about Reconstruction and Jim Crow and how we've already been through this, because their purpose is not to show us as we are, but to hide our own national truth.
And our national truth is that NO ONE WANTS THIS except a handful of the privileged and whoever is still eating the propaganda, which might end up being all they have to eat if they win.
Turns out there's a reason progressives are winning by double-digit spreads in these recent special elections, and it has nothing to do with Israel: people like the idea of single payer healthcare, of not going to or paying for expensive foreign wars, people really like the Voting Rights Act as it was written, people really just fucking like democracy. And what all of this current open power grabbing is accomplishing, beyond destroying what we value, is motivating the masses: at the very least, a LOT more people are paying attention now. That's far more than could be said even two years ago.
Look, I don't want to blow sunshine up your ass, this is bleak. But chaos is the kitchen of change and NO ONE WANTS THIS. The way I see it, this is the cancer and rot coming to the surface once again in American history: we deal with it now, or we lose our country. But with the people even in the reddest of red states showing up to say no unilaterally, with one voice, I at least know I am not alone.
I write this knowing that someone will be along soon to shit on it, because you know, hope bad, but even so, I believed it needed to be said, and I wish you well. May your Sunday be better than your Saturday was.
Wow, twenty three people?!?
Clearly you didn't read the link: speakers lined up and spoke on redistricting for several hours, with none speaking for redistricting.
In South Carolina.
EDITED TO ADD: And those twenty-three you mocked have won. The South Carolina legislature has now overturned both a resolution to redistrict and a resolution to extend the legislative session to get the actual redistricting accomplished: between those two defeats there will be no redistricting in South Carolina, at least for now. Looks like those twenty-three who came to speak with one voice against the measure mattered a lot more than you wanted to think.
I don't live in VA but I'm willing to donate money to whatever cause furthers the guillotine actions.
We need the guillotines everywhere. heh
Ooh wait was this some sort of scorched earth plan? To fork SCOTUS into an all or nothing decision?
Though I'm sure the worst bench in SCOTUS history will find a way to thread the needle to letting only red states do this.
They are just simply not going to take it
I can just imagine them doing the musical number….
......twisted sister?
Easy: Your state supreme court says its against your state constitution. We're not going to take the case.
I’m sure the SC will say they can’t overrule the state courts.
I’m sure the gop hasn’t stacked the courts while dems sit around saying how they have to be better.
Pathetic.
Asking permission to do what multiple other red state governments have done themselves without permission.
What happens if SCOTUS turns you down?
Respect the fix?
Roberts court will have to side with Virginia because otherwise they'll have to explain why Florida ignoring their constitution is ok while the people voting for this is not.
Or they'll just ignore it and not take the case. They don't even need to explain why.
That's one level of fuckery I didn't think of. But again... Roberts is tired of being called an illegitimate partisan hack. Also, Brown is not taking shit from Alito and is even confirming the Roberts court is illegitimate with her dissents.
So yeah, Roberts can do the right thing only because he's compelled to or just reinforce what we already know: that he's a paid for white supremacists shill from the Heratige Foundation.
(I still don't hate him as much as Thomas as at least Roberts is trying to do what he needs to to support his white race. What's Thomas's excuse?)
