I am loving season 1 and I glad it got an S2.
I wonder how many will return after what will be a fairly long gap. S1 was well done, but after the first episode I felt the plot stagnated. New information was rationed to no more than 1 piece an episode.
Too slow for my liking, plus the protagonist isn't very likable. Intentionally so, but it makes watching it more of a chore.
I mean, the slow pacing is kind of a given for a Vince Gilligan production (Breaking Bad and Better Cauldron Saul are very similar).
Some people like to marinate in a world setting, while others don’t.
Similarly, his protagonists tend to be arseholes - they are complex characters, with some charm and likeable characteristics, but definitely not “good” in any sense of the word.
I’m not trying to state that your opinion is impression is wrong - quite the opposite; I felt the same way about Breaking Bad, which is why I ultimately gave up on that show.
Something about Pluribus “clicked” for me, so I enjoy it - but it may just not be the show for you, and that’s perfectly fine!
Breaking Bad worked for me, but BCS was too long between some seasons and when I came back I didn't care anymore. Also BB had a lot more episodes per season, so movement over the course of a season was greater.
Why did it take this long to start shooting if they already knew they were going to make a 2nd season ages ago?
That was a pretty interresting plot, but such an unbearable main character. I suppose they meant her to be, but she's just too much. Like unrealistically unbearable.
Actor did great though!
Looking forward to season 2 though. Will be interresting where they'll take it.
Yeah, Rhea Seehorn is great. Carol is definitely intentionally abrasive (hence all of the other characters' reactions) and the show repeatedly under cuts her methods to make her seem slightly ridiculous, but her extreme stubbornness is what makes her such a good lens for the story.
Personally, I think it's very relatable to be an asshole in a smiling zombie apocalypse.
Agree, I thought Carol was absolutely understandable given her circumstances.
She's got good reason to be angry, and from her perspective it's as if she's stuck in a lunatic asylum while being the only sane person.
I didn't even find her stubbornness particularly novel or outrageous. I would say the majority of supervisors in my subordinate day over the past 20 years are just as if not more stubborn. They may not have been as aggressive or hostile about it but I don't think it is because the impulse wasn't there. They just lacked the vocabulary to weaponize their words. Plenty of them screamed or threw tantrums though.
Gilligan's characters always develop through seasons. Always.
