Did the AI just see "fiddler" and go zoomer-slang mode

I knew exactly who it would be.

25 or 30 years ago he was in a bit of hot water for flashing people because he was wearing a kilt without anything under it while performing. That's probably all it took for the LLM to go down the garden path.

He's a bit of a character.

Helluva fiddle player though. I saw one of his shows, probably about 1995 if my memory is correct. It was a whale of a time.

Canadian fiddler sues Google after ~~AI Overview~~ the people who run Google wrongly claimed he was a sex offender

[-] RodgeGrabTheCat@sh.itjust.works 56 points 21 hours ago

Can one put a price on a damaged reputation? $1.5m is too small.

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

Yeah 1.5 mill ain't shit to Google.

Exactly. I can't believe he's going for such peanuts, especially after reading all the other crap that they associated him with.

Ashley MacIsaac, a three-time Juno award-winning musician, filed the claim in the Ontario superior court of justice, asserting that Google was liable for the “foreseeable republication” of its AI-generated Overview feature, which previously published defamatory claims that he had been convicted of multiple criminal offences, including the sexual assault of a woman, internet luring involving a child with the intention of sexual assaulting the child, and assault causing bodily harm.

Google’s AI Overview also wrongly stated that MacIsaac had been listed on the national sex offender registry for life, the lawsuit says.

Big punitive settlements aren't really a thing in Canada. He probably already has to justify to the court how Google's action led to him actually losing $1.5m. If his claim for damages was unrealistic the case would just be tossed.

(obligatory IANAL)

As much as I dislike them when all things are equal, that's not the case in this world. Canada needs to change their attitude on this a bit because absurdly large punishments are one of the only ways to deter absurdly large corporations from bad behavior. Maybe punishments need to be scaled according to relative revenue of the offender.
