i love watching the discourse from outside the us.

if harris won you'd probably still accept queer people in the army to direct tomahawk missiles onto iranian school girls, your deportation policy wouldn't be as outrageous but still draconic and half your country would've continued to kill themselves due to medical debt :)

Creating rifts with leftists and focusing on the pressing issues of 2024 instead for swallowing your pride and working towards a common cause with opponents of the US regime is definitely a good plan.

[-] Dippy@beehaw.org 4 points 3 days ago

This is a response I wish I need not have. When left wing circles refuse to build to the future because the democratsare still going to be just as bad as the Republican it becomes clear that we cant have a productive conversation about the next cycle.

edit: I've changed my mind about interacting in this thread. It has become extremely uncivil and will only continue to devolve. I'm locking the thread

[-] Hegar@fedia.io 29 points 3 days ago

Maybe we move in different circles but i don't see leftists posting about how they refuse to fight fascism with anyone unless they voted for nader in 2000 or some such.

I see liberals and rich democrats still blaming everyone but kamala and the dnc for losing. I see a democratic party elite that still thinks they don't need policies that americans want.

"A productive conversation about the next cycle" begins with listening to americans, not listing the allies you refuse to listen to.

[-] Tiresia@slrpnk.net 8 points 3 days ago

Wait you still expect ~~fair~~ viable-for-the-DNC-candidate elections next cycle?

If your efforts in "building to the future" hinge on a Democratic presidency, then I'm sorry but all your work will be for naught. You have to build for the possibility of Republicans or worse in a system as democratic as Russia.

Even if I'm wrong, there is still a 50-50 chance the Republican candidate will win, and you have to build for that eventuality too.

So sure, vote in every election, but build infrastructure to overthrow fascism now.

[-] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 3 days ago

why are you focussing on the (let's be honest here) insignificant amount of american communists who draw the line at genocide (how dare they find genocide unacceptable!) instead of, yknow, the solid third of your country that saw the first trump term, project 2025, and all that, and went "more of this, please!"?

or even then, why not focus on the party whose job it is to appeal to voters??? it doesn't take a political expert to know that there's only so much "vote for me so we can make things suck more, but slower" before people get tired of your bullshit.

[-] BinzyBoi@piefed.ca 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

B-but, don't you know that the Democrats deserve your vote just by virtue of them not being Republicans??? It was super nae nae litty fam fam when Harris had mad aura with Liz Cheney, right???

Who cares that they'd bomb Muslim babies, doesn't it matter to you that they'd only do it half as often???

[-] Goodeye8@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

or even then, why not focus on the party whose job it is to appeal to voters??? it doesn’t take a political expert to know that there’s only so much “vote for me so we can make things suck more, but slower” before people get tired of your bullshit.

Maybe if they get enough votes they will turn around and do the things that you care about.

I can't even say that's a joke because that's an actual argument someone made to explain why it's important to vote for democrats.

[-] Dippy@beehaw.org 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

who draw the line at genocide (how dare they find genocide unacceptable

Because, if they actually gave a shit about Palestinians, they would have actually tried to prevent the man who green-lit the acceleration of the genocide from winning instead of fighting the woman who no one can even prove would have actuallu supported it.

Edit: I dont know how to do a quote reply apparently

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 6 points 3 days ago

Yeah, idiots act like Harris not really giving a hard stance either way is 100% identical to Trump who basicallyntold everyonenhe wanted to bulldoze Gaza and put in hotels.

Also, the idea that people should ultimately put the hypothetical well being of fucking Israel/Palestine as their only top choice for voting over literally all the other hidious local bull shit that Trump and crew telehraphed they were going to do is absurd. Harris could have campaigned on flat out nuking Gaza and still been 10000% the beter choice.

At this point all these people still bitching about Genocide and Harris have to be some sort of troll farm shills or just flat out fucking stupid.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 3 days ago

when on god's green earth has anyone said this?
This seems like a massive (but sneaky) strawman, because the REAL argument is "kamala would have been better but still far beyond acceptable, and the democrats specifically chose her because they didn't want to win, so why should we bother with the democrats ever again?"

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 4 points 3 days ago

Because those same people giving that argument also essentislly advocate for not voting at all, as some sort of "protest". Which is effrctively a vote for Trump.

[-] BinzyBoi@piefed.ca 19 points 3 days ago

Lemmy users try not to post American politics challenge, Level 3000 IMPOSSIBLE!!!

You put up multiple filters and yet still people come out with content that bypasses that.

Can't wait until this ends up like Reddit where people will post millions of videos of Trump in a cringe community because people can't seem to stop "spreading awareness" by being nothing short of insufferable.

[-] core@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 days ago

liberals are handing out blocks now? can I get one?

[-] Dippy@beehaw.org 9 points 3 days ago

Calling me a liberal for trying to prevent the fascist?

[-] TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 3 days ago

the fascist

Lol. You mean trying to stop one particular fascist in favor of another

[-] core@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 3 days ago
[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago

Your supposed to be doing the block.

It's no surprise you confused the instructions.

[-] core@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 days ago

I don't think you know how blocks work. if they block me, they can't see me: their feed is clean. if I block them, they still see me. have you read any of the release notes?

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

I don't think you understand why they're asking you to do the blocking.

If you block them you don't see them and you don't respond. Your inability to see that secondary effect is why you are what you are.

[-] core@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 days ago

oh, I understand the secondary effect, but what they asked won't clean their feed

[-] 13igTyme@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago

It will clean it because you won't have a reason to comment.

This secondary effect really does explain why y'all can't see beyond a purity test.

[-] core@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

all they gotta do is block me and it won't matter if I comment. I'm not there one who has problems with others being wrong on the Internet. it's them who should do the blocking.

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

My favorite part is how they think they understand. They always think they do.

Indistinguishable from arguing with an above average Trump supporter. Or religion for a less inflammatory comparison.

Its called Believe Perseverance. What's weird is how widely it get applied. We're not even talking about specific ideologies but it's still being used as a defense mechanism.

[-] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 days ago

Feel free to block this community then because we dont accept Fascism Lite. When Gaven Newsom looses the election in 2028 to probably Marco Rubio I can almost guarantee you'll be blaming everyone from leftists to minorities for not enthusiastically voting for the same politicians that dont fix anything (at this point they cant even stop things from getting worse).

[-] commie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago

thank you. the condescension and insults are fucking awful

[-] xkbx@startrek.website 20 points 3 days ago

No, you see, bombing brown children and preventing things from getting better is the same and bombing brown children and making things worse!!

[-] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 13 points 3 days ago

You can block me then. With how blocking works on this site, there's no point in me blocking you since you'd still see me stating the things that make you uncomfortable.

[-] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Have you ever put "I hate drama" in a dating profile?

Self-medicating with rage bait

[-] 13igTyme@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

I just call them out for the fuck heads they are. Everyone of them uses the same 5 failed arguments they've been told to say. You can practically copy and paste your own replies to shut them up.

[-] Dippy@beehaw.org 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

They dont learn though. Id like to have productive conversations with people who meaningfully discuss the differences between Newsom and Harris, and that cant happen if people in the room are suggesting that Trump and Harris are the same. Edit: this is not an endorsement of Newsom. I dont like him. He's better than trump. He's still rotten.

[-] TaterTot@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago

Edit: this is...an endorsement of Newsom. I...like him. He’s better than trump. He’s (a) ...ten.

-Dippy, 2026 (abridged for brevity)

You heard it here first folks, Dippy endorses Newsom!

  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
