She’s hardly on her phone like me so I don’t want to get her anything crazy so I was thinking the newest SE. She loves using my phone for pictures/videos/Facetime/etc so I think it’s time to upgrade her. What would you guys recommend for a first time iPhone user?

If she’s using androids she most probably likes the big screens. I’d recommend at least get the 13 (like everybody else said).

The SE caters to a niche market of people who absolutely have to have an iPhone and either don’t want to spend more or need the Touch ID. No happy android user is going to like an SE (at least the current one) because of its small IPS display and abysmal battery life. (Leaving aside the camera which is decent but nothing to be happy about). No matter how good the processor is, the phone feels extremely dated and looks like it’s already 7 years old out of the box.

There nothing wrong with Android. Definitely tell us which model she has. The SE, as good as it is, does have drawbacks., notably the bezels, and battery life.

Food for thought as someone that’s new to iPhone. USB C was a huge selling point for me since every charging adapter and cable(car and wall) I’ve had for the last 8-10 years is usb c. Not sure what her charging habits are if she’s a ‘plug in at night’ person anything will work if, like me, she is a ‘20%-80% charge any time’ person she might need multiple bricks, cables, or even a battery pack. I would have had to spend another ~$100 just on chargers if the 15 didn’t have usb c.

I would take her into the store and have her demo the iphone models to see which best suites her. A hands on experience with the product is always the best solution to see what suites them more comfortably.

This is how I got my now wife to convert to apple.

Lmao, buying an iPhone SE for making pictures and videos… that’s such a bad idea.

At the very least the iPhone 15.

Samsung A12. 48 MP camera, 720p screen,…

Did Samsung put all their money in their camera lol?

It's a very low-tier phone. I'm not even sure what you're trying to imply. I'd be more concerned about the iPhone 15 that still has a 60Hz screen, especially since the next generation - the A13, has a 90Hz screen at 1080p.

iPhone 13 is the best option

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Iphone 13 user here. It is the best one apple has made in years. Definitely get her that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Get the 15reg cuz it has usb c already

Go phone shopping with her. If she has always used Android and gives no indication of changing other than using your phone for the camera and FaceTime then maybe she wants to stick with Android. Maybe get her a cheap iPad?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Why can't she keep her android and use the iphone in addition, instead of an ipad?

Nobody in their right mind should get an SE right now. Get iPhone 15 minimum. Same charging cables make the transition so much easier.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

iPhone 13 at minimum. An SE would be an insult.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

a regular 13pro 120hz is a safe bet💯. A SE would be a hot ass mess frfr. If he’s tryna go SE I’d say a 13mini would way better

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If you say she uses your phone a lot for pictures/videos/facetime, don’t get the SE. The camera and screen are just not worth it.

I’m not super familiar with the A12 but it looks like it uses USB-C and I’m assuming she has a number of those cables lying around. In that case, I would recommend the 15 at minimum.

If that’s too much, you may want to specify a firm budget for recommendations.

iphone SE (gen 3) is an almost 10 y/o phone with minor improvements to the iphone 6. yes the CPU is way better but you can almost only use it for the same things as an iphone 6. single lens camera is difficult to compare to an android in the same price range, screen is ridiculously bad in todays standards and also uncomparable

the SE is only good if you need a cheap entry to get in the apple ecosystem, but there are alternatives for blue messaging and facetime

I’m gonna echo what most people here are saying, an iPhone SE has a potato for a camera and if pictures are one of the main draws to your phone, don’t bother with it. I wouldn’t go any lower than a 12, but I think your best bang for the buck is going to be an iPhone 13, Depending on what size screen she’s accustomed to you can get it in small, medium and large.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Would also say at that point either the 13 (solid and cheap) or directly iphone 15 then you have like 7 years peace with it and has usb-c

My dog sitter had a Samsung galaxy Z flip three and it was her last android. She kept saying how much she liked all of the pictures that I was sending her and how she loved the quality. I got her an iPhone 13 last summer and she loves it. I think that is a pretty good initial iPhone!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Also the SE is not a full screen phone. It’ll feel like a downgrade.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

pink 15 bro, she’ll love it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The iphone 15 plus would be a bigass upgrade in every respect. Plus its battery life is epic

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

My wife is the same. She had the 6s plus until 2 years ago when I bought her the iPhone 12. Due to having problems with the battery I bought her the 14 pro max 512 yesterday. The 15 pro max doesn't have any further improvements and since she has lighting cables I bought her this. She is not on her phone all the time. She has an ancient MacBook for all her work and she is happy with it. The 6s plus stayed for many years and millions of pictures inside.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Give her 13 Mini. Pink one. She will love it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

What's your budget?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Get her the iPhone 15 with USB-C. Or wait till the new iPhone SE 4th generation comes out with it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’d replace an SE with a iPhone 13mini if you’re on a budget. If you’re feeling like going all out, get her the regular iPhone 15. If the 15 is too much for you, look down a bit at the “regular 13pro”. You’ll get 120hz, better camera and of course 5G. just no usb-c like the 15.

Good luck shopping👍🏽

I got my partner an iPhone for his birthday (he came from a Galaxy A52). Got him the 15 pro max. He loves it now ☺️ definitely agree with the comments on getting the iPhone 15/15 Plus or even the 15 pro/pro max if you have the budget as it’s more convenient with the USB-C port.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

iPhone 15 base

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Se is not a good option for her mainly because of the screen size, get her an iphone 14 plus or 15 plus

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If you’re thinking of getting her the SE, I’d look at getting a certified refurbished 13 mini.

You get the same chip, better screen, Face ID, better camera, MagSafe, better battery and is around the same price as the SE

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Get her the 12 or the 13 mini. If she's barely on her phone anyway, she's going to get pissed if she has to eventually learn an entire new setup than the ol' home button iPhone arrangement.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ask her if she wants to switch to IOS first then bring her to a store for her to try an iPhone to see if she likes it or if you are using one ,you can let her try yours.

If she doesn’t want to then just stick to Android and buy her one of the model. But if she decides to make the switch, I recommend going for iPhone 15s (if your budget allows you for it) mainly for the USB C as she would already have alot of it laying around.

iPhone 15 is great in pink color.
