I'm usually not an optimist, but I kinda see the positive side: It shows that dependence on fossil fuels for energy is a huge security risk for the whole world, as single actors can cause huge price hikes to EVERYTHING, not just the fuel itself. Now even the dumbest get that we must invest in diversifying the energy sector, ergo invest in green energy.
Humanity really sucks. It should never take a war for people to start realizing that the old ways don't work forever, but here we are and to me it seems like this has always been the case.
Plus, finally there is a major price hike that can't be blamed on the green parties.
An incredibly tiny ruling group of sociopaths suck. Humanity as a whole could be very positive, if it stopped letting itself be led around by the nose.
People voted for Trump and far right parties all over the world. They also voted against doing anything about climate change. People suck.

The best part I think is, the US oil and gas industry got everything they wanted out of Trump and more, but doing all that is actively screwing them in the long run. Their talking points like LNG being a bridge fuel and securing energy prices by having oil production are combusting in real time.

So if a NATO owned ship crosses the blockade and gets attacked, does that mean they can trigger article 5 against the US?
Also, what right does the US have to place a random blockade like that in international waters?
What you're implying makes no sense.
The ships passing are not "NATO owned". They're most likely not even ships owned by the armed forces of NATO countries apart from the US. And even if they were attacked, this is outside of the territory of the NATO member state, which is a condition for triggering article 5.
Let me clarify: If any ships that passed through were registered to a NATO owned country (not saying that any actually are right now).
Now the territory part is interesting. So does that mean you’re free to attack a nations resources outside of their borders without giving them a means triggering Article 5?
Art 5 doesn't cover the outlying french (or Spanish. Or English, or Hawaiian) territories that are outside north arlantic for example. So ships - even less so. Art5 (along with all other arts) are an obligation. It gives member countries a strong casus belli, in a sense. Art5 doesn't suddenly place the armed forces of NATO under some command structure to be commanded at will by US or the aggrieved memberstate.
That said, a memberstate whose properties or civilians are attacked as an act of war is free to choose their response. Countries allied to any fighter can choose their supporting response outside the NATO framework.
I would guess that's precisely where the term "international waters" refers to.
So they're trying to do the Cuba strategy to Iran. A strategy that hasn't worked for nearly 60 years. But, and stay with me here, they're going to do it while the rest of the world relies heavily on a resource that Iran has and is willing to sell.
Like, is the plan to force the world to join the United States in invading Iran? Because, I feel like just bombing the US ships in the region is gonna be the easier play at this point. Like, is the US just gonna be sitting ducks in the strait for Iran to shoot at? That's really the plan?
