All I remember is that they used to automatically inject ads and spyware to downloadable files. No idea if they still do that, most likely yes

It was amazing for years and then they ran out of money. When it completely crashed and went full ad insanity and crashed again, someone else took over with the intent of making it great again. That may be a poor choice of words or it may not.

I also remember when it got taken over by new management with the promise of improving things. That was a couple of years ago IIRC, and it's still a septic tank of advertisements and download countdowns.

I remember when sourceforge was a good place to get windows software, as I recall it took over from Tucows.

Yea, i remember ending up on there more often when I still got my windows machine, but even then it had that weird aura to it. Just downloading it made me feel like it is not the intended way.

I'm always amazed when I find a project that is still using Sourceforge. I always assume that it is completely unused by any active projects anymore. MX Linux was the most recent one I came across. Their ISOs are on sourceforge, although they use Github for their main repo.

And...apparently Sourceforge was bough by Slashdot in 2019?! Wow. Two early-2000s heavyweights right there.

OpenMediaVaukt also uploads there

They still make an acceptable FTP server for backing up your huge tarballs.

Github is more involved, you need to create a release and then attach files to it. With sf.net you jist do a FTP upload.

Sourceforge or Github for backup? Are you silly?

First CVS I pushed code to.

Maybe I'm tired, or maybe I'm traumatised from sourceforge, but my god did this give me some terrifying laughter
