Suez crisis for Britain was about UN, US and USSR not approving UK, Israel and France's shenanigans in Egypt and threatened to make shit difficult for them. Brits found this untenable and that made them back off. That was the whole humiliation. UK, the once great empire not being able to act with impunity on the world stage, when a third tier country takes it's strategically important shit, without asking their allies nicely first.

Hormuz is literally US begging for help to win a war that they started, didn't have to start, and now can't win. On the face of it, this is so much worse than Suez.

Certainly more pathetic.

If god wills it, may it destroy them

Honestly surprised Canada rejected

The US finally beat on them too much

Pleasant surprise from Australia.

Low key wondering if our last federal election might in retrospect have unironically been "the most important election of your life."

Now evict pine gap.

canada has like a dozen combat capable naval vessels and all of them would immediately get blown to pieces if they tried navigating through mines and drones. It's an easy rejection

Do you think Trump regrets his tariff flex now?

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 63 points 5 months ago

I suspect Trump is not capable of regret. Or rational thought.

actually wild how just 20 years ago literally every one of these countries would have jumped at the chance to do this with Iran, but they're all afraid of being hung out to dry now becuase alphamale chuds don't know how to do empire diplomacy

As my great chancellor said: "They didn't even ask us beforehand and said they would need no help". So now they are miffed. You know, in the old world, we still follow decorum. You ask beforehand or afterwards for clean up but not in the middle of your mess of a job. It's not that they don't want, it just looks too bad.

Trump asked allies to make a joint fleet to protect shipping in the Gulf, and almost all of them said no because that would be suicide.

i love sending expensive military boats into a narrow straight full of naval mines and patrolled by drones, especially if I'm a country with like 5 military boats
