Big light mode has been stealing our memes for too long. It's time to push back.

You would have loved computing in 1980.

Need to be more inclusive, its 2026.

allow for any color text.

spoilerIncluding black on black, I wish my memes to be invisible

You joke but dynamic content based on site, user settings would be so damn cool and a great accessibility feature.

Granted it may take more data but there is so much more we can do with digital media than just static pictures.

Id love if pictures showed some actual buttons when you hovered over them that can change to a readable font. Feature an explanatory description (or easter egg) Copy parts of the text or link to the oc source.

Mmm all memes with text must be transcribed into a native text program that displays the text to each users customisations. Images are attached separately. If you fail to comply you get fucking IP banned lol

Red on blue, I wish my memes to be unpleasant to the eyes

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I'm afraid I can't do that.

The goggles, they do nothing!

Dave: Open the pod bay doors, please, HAL. Open the pod bay doors, please, HAL. Hello, HAL. Do you read me? Hello, HAL. Do you read me? Do you read me, HAL?

HAL: Affirmative, Dave. I read you.

Dave: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.

HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

Downvote posts that consist mostly or entirely of an image of text but don't also include a transcription in either the alt text or the body.

I want to hear more about this.

[-] XiELEd@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

Agree with this tbh

Edit: Red text on a background of green squares of various shades. It reads, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

Unironically better than black text on white

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Really? I appreciate your support, but that was the worst thing I could come up with quickly. I say that as someone who uses dark mode across the board, including solid black backgrounds and wallpapers. Should I have used dark brown text on a light blue background?

[-] Fleur_@aussie.zone 6 points 1 week ago

Light level is the problem I have. I don't need every single sub pixel outputting all of its light on every inch of the screen all the time. A flat black background with contrasting letters is ideal to me. I'm okay with sacrificing readability of the text for ease on the eyes.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I hear that. I also like that it saves power in devices with OLED displays.

Fuck yeah!

Btw the other way you can do it (which will only be noticeable to users with screen readers) is to put the alt text between the square brackets.

I think I once made a comment that implies I'm Yueh, but I prefer to think of myself as the personification of the tooth as if it were a character in the novel.

[-] hzl@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

Hopefully less of an empty gesture! 😅

I love my dark mode too, but this sounds like brigading and brigading should be a banable offense on Lemmy & PieFed

[-] Ikon@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Was all in till I read your comment, now I gotta flip and upvote to a downvote

[-] Lydia_K@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

As much as I agree with you in spirit; come on now, let's let everyone enjoy things the way they wanna enjoy things.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago

My computer growing up was black with green text. I don't even know what your talking about.

[-] Speculater@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Why can't the server ID the white background and inverse colors? I feel like it should be trivial. But I'm all in for your campaign!

I'm just here to down vote you for "that's"

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Clearly should've been whoms's.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Whomst'd've the correct answer?

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I'dn't've known.

[-] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I would help, but I've already blocked every user who does that.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Every time I look away from dark mode Lemmy and it's excess of text, I see stripes. Maybe it's not the way

Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
