Nah. Trump alone cannot drag down the reputation of the whole country. The reason we hate america more now is because trump is so openly corrupt, that we can see how corrupt his buddies are too. And his buddies are the ones that run america.
The entire GOP is doing everything it can to protect trump from any legal consequences. All the big tech companies openly bribe him to get away with the shit they do. His voters are no longer ashamed of the racist and fascist shit that come out their mouths. Pete hegseth and Co. brag about how much they hate their "freeloading" allies.
Bringing down the reputation of America is a team effort. You cannot just throw trump under the bus.
Another reason is that it's not like there was a coup and the population is being held hostage. They voted for this. Twice.
Both parties were captured by the rich before we were born, and have gotten worse every cycle, respective of their party. We are being held hostage, even if a quarter of them trust the ones most screwing them to represent them, and only half of them are party stalwarts, it's like 13 percent that know what they are doing and supporting, and most of them are evangelicals and religious crazies, and business dickheads. The rest are sheep. Democrat side too, sheep that trust the party, those that think they will benefit, then the majority of them that are just voting against the other party.
At least half of all voters are voting against the other party, and it's never been more clear how pointless that is in preventing the republicans from seizing absolute power, we stuck our necks out in 2020 and Biden did nothing with it, didn't even protect voting officials getting death threats. The democrats learned nothing, haven't changed anything, they will not stop the republicans, never were going to, and that's not their mission, preventing popular reform to revoke the license the rich have been granted is their reason for being, and we all know it.
So I disagree, voting democrat was never going to keep the republicans out with a captured democratic party.

I think that fact belies a media captured by corporate interests that have been pressured to give citizens a false impression, more than any fundamental fault in the australian people.
We had a reputation in Australia? I'm honestly surprised our great president hasn't been filing slaap suits in australian courts for saying mean things about him, probably just an oversight on his part.
Australia has libel laws like the UK that allow the rich to crush anyone the criticizes them, forcing them into court to pay millions in lawyers. It's bad enough here in the US and we have more freedom of speech in that regard, especially to criticize public figures, the bar here is if a public figure you have to say the false statements that harm them with actual malice and knowing the statements are false, if I recall. Sarah Palin tried to overturn that precedent suing the NYTimes recently and scotus didn't overturn it yet either. Yet.
But it's only going to get worse from here on out. When they choose a new leader, presuming they fix elections for that new leader and the democrats don't take it back, an overwhelmingly likely probability at this point, our leadership will get worse, even as the new leader might not be such a blowhard, they will be able to get more done.
Once elections are fixed they will get much worse obviously, and the Aussies will become more supplicants, vassal states, than junior partners.
