A reminder that as the US continues to threaten countries around the world, fedposting is to be very much avoided (even with qualifiers like "in Minecraft") and comments containing it will be removed.

Get it? "Revolting" is a double entendre! Anyway...

As the Trump administration continues to accelerate the flagrant disregard of "international law", we have seen various European leaders flock to China (alongside Canada), seeking deals. Some trips have been more successful than others - for example, Macron's was fairly dire despite his lavish reception by Xi Jinping, but Starmer's resulted in some actual deals and tariff reductions. The intent of this wave of diplomacy with China is clear: leverage.

Nobody should be fooled into thinking this revolt immediately benefits the developing world, of course. While a relative weakening of the US compared to Europe is progressive in a limited sense (insofar as the US is the locus of imperialism), every indication shows that, when it matters, the European consensus remains aligned in most respects with the US, such as with them and the Zionist entity against Iran, against national sovereignty in Africa (e.g. ECOWAS), as well as in Latin America (either in support or not sufficiently opposing American designs there against Cuba and Venezuela, to name but two countries). It is also unclear how long such a divide will last - perhaps Trump leaving office in 2028 and a slightly less bellicose leader in power will result in many cancelled deals with China.

Despite the very shaky initial steps over the past couple years, Europe still has many miles it must traverse to achieve sovereignty, let alone socialism. For now, it will cheer on the sanctions against millions of vulnerable people and incoming bombing of Iran and Hezbollah, though perhaps it will also share a degree of the economic/military retaliation.

Most people, in fact, will not take the trouble in effort posting to find the truth, but are much more inclined to accept the first slop they read. DM me to feature effort posts and good threads in the newsmega/newscomm here (including your own).

Cuba is preparing measures to address the complex energy situation caused by the blockade. - Radio Ciudad del Mar

Article

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced on Thursday the implementation of a series of government measures, including restrictions on consumption, to address a complex energy situation exacerbated by coercive measures from the United States

During a press conference, the head of state explained that since December, no fuel has been received due to the strengthening of the blockade against Venezuela, which affects electricity generation and basic economic and social activities.

"We have problems with fuel availability to guarantee not only electricity generation, but also basic activities that directly affect the population," he stated.

The president reported that the Council of Ministers met to approve directives, updated based on the instructions of the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, during the "special period," with the aim of addressing the shortages.

"Even with the energy blockade, we will not give up on receiving fuel in our country. That is a right we have, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the country can have a supply again," he asserted.

Díaz-Canel described as "condemnable" and "criminal" the policy of a powerful nation seeking to suffocate a small country, asking: "What right does a nation have to prevent fuel from reaching another country?"

As part of the strategy to counteract the effects of the blockade, the president detailed several actions underway, such as increasing national production.

The president specified that the extraction of oil and associated gas will be promoted, and this year it is expected that 20,000 new Havana consumers will be connected to the manufactured gas network.

He also noted that Cuban scientists are working on projects to refine domestic crude oil and obtain derivatives such as gasoline and diesel, following a successful test at the end of last year.

Progress is also being made in the recovery and construction of new fuel storage capacity, lost after the Matanzas fire, in order to receive larger volumes.

"Let's see it as an opportunity to develop, to have sustainable development, to be more energy sovereign and less dependent," the president stressed.

The president acknowledged that the measures, some of them restrictive, "will demand effort" and "sacrifice" from the population, but emphasized that surrender is not an option for Cuba.

President Díaz-Canel live on the situation in Cuba, the impact of latest US measures, the support of the international community, relations with Venezuela, strategy to overcome the current crisis:

Speech

At the diplomatic and rhetorical levels, support has been received from many countries, for Cuba, “but behind those speeches there is more, things that we also cannot openly explain because the enemy is pursuing every avenue that Cuba might open up for them.” “I can assure you, with the utmost responsibility, that Cuba is not alone.”

“Right now there are people, governments, countries, institutions, and companies that are willing to work with Cuba, and that have already shared with us ways, mechanisms, and intentions of how we can do so”

“The energy persecution, the financial persecution, the intensification of the blockade with these coercive measures is such that we know we have to do a very strong, very creative, very intelligent job to overcome all these obstacles”

“Not allowing a single drop of fuel to enter our country will affect transportation, food production, tourism, children's education, and the healthcare system.”

“They are waging psychological warfare against Cuba to fracture the unity of the Cuban people and generate uncertainty,”

“I am not an idealist. I know that we are going to live through difficult times, but we will overcome them together, with creative resistance and the contribution of the majority of Cubans."

President Diaz Canel on confronting the US energy blockade:

Speech

“The country must be able to sustain itself with its own energy sources: our own oil, our own gas, biomass, solar energy…”

“By the end of February, we will have added another 98 MW from renewable sources; by the end of March, we will have added another 58 MW, on the path to energy independence.”

“The way the US energy blockade has been implemented reinforces our commitment to the renewable energy strategy.”

“Even with an energy blockade, we will not give up on receiving fuel in our country.”

“I always say that all generations of Cubans, from those born in the early years of the Revolution to the most recent, our grandchildren, our children, were born and lived under a blockade and were born under the signs of this economic suffocation.”

Regarding cooperation with Venezuela and how the US naval blockade on Venezuela affects Cuba:

Speech

“Cuba does not have a relationship of dependency with Venezuela, but rather a relationship of exchange between sister nations within an integration project.”

Economic and commercial relations, as well as significant collaborative projects in energy and medical services, were formed between Cuba and Venezuela, some of which were offset by fuel payments.

“At one time, they did cover all of our country's fuel needs, but not recently, because we must remember that Venezuela has been subjected to sanctions, coercive measures, and pressures that have affected this exchange”

He added that once the energy and naval blockade against Venezuela began, it prevented ships from Venezuela, and even from other nations carrying Venezuelan fuel, from reaching Cuba.

“The situation is further aggravated by the executive order recently signed by the United States government, which uses threats of tariffs to manipulate countries that supply oil to Cuba. Under this pretext, they have practically imposed an energy blockade on our country.”

Cuba’s president on the threat of US military attack:

Speech

“It’s our sovereign duty, in the face of a period of aggression, to prepare for an attack.”

“All the country's territorial defense systems are being prepared and their plans updated.”

“Cuba is a peaceful country; we are not a threat to the US,” but we have the right to defend ourselves.

“We know that terrorists are being financed and are preparing in Miami to carry out attacks in Cuba, and we will denounce them at the appropriate time.”

“Surrender is not an option in this country.”

“Trump, with his statements, acknowledges that there is no failed state, but rather a state that has had to confront the aggressions and sanctions of the most powerful empire in the world, when he says that there is no other pressure to apply to Cuba than to destroy and devastate it.”

“Cuba is willing to engage in dialogue with the US, dialogue on any issue, but without pressure, without preconditions, on equal footing, with respect for our sovereignty and self-determination, in a civilized dialogue that can build a relationship between neighbors that benefits both countries.”

Russia will continue to supply oil to Cuba: ambassador - CGNT

Article

Russia has repeatedly supplied oil to Cuba in recent years, and will continue to do so, Russian Ambassador to Cuba Viktor Coronelli said in an interview.

:"We assume that this practice will continue," he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday said the United States had begun talks with "the highest people in Cuba," days after declaring Cuba "an unusual and extraordinary threat" to U.S. national security and threatening tariffs on the U.S.-bound exports of any nation that sends oil to the island.

The U.S. has moved to block all oil from reaching Cuba, including that from ally Venezuela, pushing up prices for food and transportation and prompting severe fuel shortages and hours of blackouts, even in the capital Havana.

Reports that anyone who participated in or commemorated the invasion of Venezuela will not be covered by the “Amnesty Law.” This is not the first amnesty law under Chavismo; there have been two others, one under Chávez and another under Maduro, if I remember correctly.

Bitcoin is feeling a bit crash-y recently. Down 35% in the last three months. Auch!

Looks like the biggest bagholders are retail (small individual investors) and MicroStrategy. It looks like a lot of crypto miners have reoriented towards AI/datacenters. But at least "the good guys" (Trump) got out first!

Bitcoin currently sits at $66k, the average price of electricity to mine one Bitcoin in the US is around $70k. Of course, crypto miners that are still in it won't need to sell right away just to pay their electricity bills, but if the price stays below $70k for months, some crypto miners will have to liquidate purely for that reason. [edit] As soon as the stock market closed, retail buying the dip and constant illegal wash trading pushed Bitcoin up by ~$1k in minutes. This really goes to show how connected Bitcoin is to the overall stock market and that the big guys are selling.

Trump's World Liberty Financial sells $5 billion worth of Bitcoin

[-] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 12 points 3 hours ago

The whole block difficulty thing was meant to make it harder for one person to accumulate all the rewards but instead it means only a centralised coin mining op can be successful.

It's just a reinvention of fiat currency but you can volunteer your time to get a fraction of the rewards (maybe!). Is that really what this has boiled down to? How on earth does bitcoin as a currency manage when it drives its money printers into the bin?

[-] mickey@hexbear.net 16 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I do have sympathy for the retail traders who are left bagholding on this. I think BTC is sold as this cool thing that's totally independent from the stock market that will just keep accumulating value to infinity. Now we get to see that yes, when stocks are taking a beating traders are going to liquidate their BTC to cover their trade positions and that selling pressure is going to drop the prices. I imagine that is a similar reason why precious metals are taking a beating in addition to the speculative bubble unwinding.

I think those basic facts combined with the allure of crypto/ai/NFT (remember those?) wearing off combined with the real economy being in the toilet may increasingly reveal that this is just another asset class and it's main use outside illicit transactions is for rich people to do scams and tax evasion. gui-trans

I took a modest position in paper silver around New Year's, that was up >40% at one point and now I'm flat. If silver keeps unwinding I'm going to start bleeding lol, fingers crossed I don't need to use that money any time soon.

[-] Lovely_sombrero@hexbear.net 15 points 5 hours ago

Yea, the irony is that BTC is very top-heavy and dominated by just a few players on the hold side and on the mining side as well.

[-] mickey@hexbear.net 15 points 4 hours ago

Nah bro you don't understand bro this shit is totally decentralized this is a libertarian ancap currency of the future, no government, no corporate control, this is the future bro I swear. But like I said, for all the PMC cryptobros and failchildren that I would like to see take a big ol' haircut, I do feel bad for workaday people who bought in thinking this was some kind of ticket to stability in their financial life.
