Also the Alberta separatist movements are backed by American oil companies

This math checks out

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Pour quois pas les deux

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Yup. Also, Alberta separates, then the US refuses to buy the oil unless we become a state.

For a bunch of union members, oil workers sure don’t seem to get the concept of unity.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

It would be tough to go it on your own when you are land locked. Would Albertans vote Republican? Like they are probably closer to Democrats in values, but being the arguably most conservative part of Canada would they identify as Republicans?

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

We’re the most backwards redneck province. At least, outside the cities. It’s basically conservatives all around expect the 2 major cities.

I'm sorry, "the world loses itself"? Did AI write their slogan? Absolute shit.

[-] kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip 47 points 3 weeks ago

I mean the photo looks pretty AI generated too, imo

[-] PanGodofPanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

Man, I love the dystopian nightmare of information warfare we're living in. It's just so entertaining to learn a brand new way massed computers can fuck with people's brains from afar every. single. day.

Sharing a border with an aggressive neo colonizer that is actively looking to snatch resources and create 51st states... Now is a great time to secede from your nation

[-] jack_of_sandwich@lemmy.sdf.org 21 points 3 weeks ago

Oh.. funny if you think Trump would let any territories he conquers be states. I doubt he would even extend citizenship to his new subjects

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago

It really depends upon whether it would be a red state or a blue state.

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago

State? They would willing be leaving Canada (with a lot less of AB than they think they could take). The US would have all the advantage and it wouldn't be granting statehood. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with less rights than Puerto Rico. They'd have to go that route though since they couldn't pull off being a separate country.

[-] DomeGuy@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

You're underestimating how racist Republicans can be.

If Puerto Rico or DC were 60% white they'd have been states before Regan left office. Canada is* whiter than the USA, so they'd be granted statehood faster than Trump can lie.

*: based on the numbers from https://inqira.io/q/what-is-the-racial-makeup-of-the-us-compared-to-canada , and some math subtracting "Latino" from "white".

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Idk I think he'd love for Alberta to be a state. Never BC, Quebec, or Ontario. Manitoba and Saskatchewan maybe. The territories obviously not

[-] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 14 points 3 weeks ago

Is that their goal? I thought there is a small magatarian movement in Canada but I'm unsure if it's condensed in Alberta

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

Last time I looked at this, since I have some dumb family members who think the majority of Canadians want to join the states, it's like a few k people total across Canada...and yes all of them are maga following idiots. No real majority in Canada wants to join or break away from Canada. It's just a group maga idiots who these other maga morons keep bringing up like their is a mass movement...and yes the magas here in the states eat that shit up because they're to fucking stupid to understand what propaganda is.

[-] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago

Makes sense that American magatarians would to try perpetuate that then. Russia did that shit when they invaded Ukraine. Sorry for perpetuating that tactic

[-] DomeGuy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

You're not a REAL sub-national political division of a North American English-speaking country unless the right wing is agitation for your succession or partition.

(See: Texas, Oregon, California, upstate NY, and probably Quebec. Not to mention a bunch of others I'm too Yankee to know and some very-old instances like Vermont that helped the USA get from 13 to 50.)

[-] TheBat@lemmy.world 27 points 3 weeks ago

That's an AI generated image, right?

[-] kingofthezyx@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 weeks ago

It looks like it to me too

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

An online AI checker says yes.

[-] abbiistabbii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 weeks ago

Albertan independence feels like the opposite of the Scottish Independence movement: largely right wing.

[-] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 19 points 3 weeks ago

Its directly backed by American oil companies, so no surprise there

[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 19 points 3 weeks ago

I feel like if you dig this movement enough it will end up with US or Russia.

[-] Peanutbjelly@sopuli.xyz 21 points 3 weeks ago

Atlas network. Tied to heritage foundation, the project 2025 people. Although very Russian tactics. Ive been stating both as responsible for decades of division/anti solidarity stuff, but USA is currently much more likely to claim that Albertans obviously need to be liberated from the evil communist Canadian government, and that the oil always really belonged to the states anyway.

[-] Avicenna@programming.dev 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Although very Russian tactics

Also very Russian like to put young attractive females on posters. For some reason they have made their mind about that being the most effective propaganda technique. They imagine people will go like "welp if I side with this attractive female my chances of engaging in sexual activities with her will significantly increase". I hope they don't.

[-] AlexLost@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

USA for sure, with Russia's hand up its ass and a lot of rich evil people supporting it so they don't have to care about things or people or animals while they rape and pillage the earth at our expense. They've tried to spread all over Canada but have only found root in Alberta, for... Reasons.

[-] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 weeks ago

Albertian independence is absurd and highly unlikely, urban Albertans have every reason to oppose while rual Albertans mostly dont care.

[-] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 5 points 3 weeks ago

Oh the rural people in Alberta also think this is stupid. Just the same people who are pushing this are the same small few that did parades about how the WHO and UN are controlling us though poisoned water, then the covid convoy, then the "Albertan" Republican party and now this. Its a bunch of useful idiots that are very clearly now getting us funding.

The best part is that this plebiscite was started by a group that wants to stay in Canada and knew this would be taken up by these wackados. The question is does Alberta want to stay in Canada, and the legal result should put an end to this separatist nonsense. (I mean come on we are at least 1000km to the nearest ocean, maybe if the idea was BC and Alberta sure but even then the treaties kinda stop this)

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 11 points 3 weeks ago

It's be funny if they did and then Canada just air dropped rats there.

ContextAlberta prides itself on being rat-free. https://www.alberta.ca/history-of-rat-control-in-alberta

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

But Alberta you're part of Laurentia.

[-] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago

What collapse?

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 weeks ago

Have they tried talking to Trump? He seems eager to invade places and make them new states.

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

More like a 17 year old who has an offer that totally isn't going to disappear her into a sex trafficking ring, but she's been told sooooo many great stories about how her life will be that it just must turn out great, right?

Right?

[-] Jimm@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago
