I miss classic 9gag memes.

Oh man, 9gag is classic now? Do people not even remember funnyjunk or ebaums world anymore? (I don't expect anyone to be familiar with SomethingAwful although some will be)

I don't feel superior, just old.

Damn, now I'm getting a vague memory of an edgier website in this vein, but I'm stumbling on the name. Steak and Kidney Pie or something?

Edit: it was steakandcheese[dot]com, which apparently went full porn at some point looking at discussions of it. And the reason I have a memory of it was that was my exposure to goatse.

Rest of original comment: Only real memory is that there was some really dark humour shit on it, and probably wasn't the best browsing choice for 12-13 year olds when eBaum's was right there.

The first big meme competition I ever got excited about was back over on ytmnd[dot]com, whose name origin was of course Sean Connery in Finding Forrester inexplicably shouting, "You're the man now, dawg!"

I got permabanned for reporting anti-theisitc and transphobic trolls for being insulting edgelords. Weirdly enough they still let you delete your account even when it's been banned.

I wish Lemmy was as active as Reddit, I miss my niche subreddits. Where am I going to go to talk about philosophy and Sonic? And seriously, where's the damn porn?

I deleted my account a few months ago. I don't miss any of the big subs, because that sort of content is on here too. But there are some niche topics that simply don't have enough traffic here to support good discussion.

They don't delete your account automatically, because then they can legally keep using all of your data. Once you delete, they have a legal obligation to delete almost all of that data, as per GDPR. Not sure about outside EU, but honestly it may very well be the same or similar. Sometimes it's cheaper to implement GDPR worldwide, instead of on a per region basis.

Guys let's go back to rage comics.

Content not viewable in your region.

Could you provide an alternate link? Or maybe use the image button to upload it to your instance so it’s out of the control of some corporation?

(Imgur deleted a bunch of content for the crime of not having a paid subscription, and they geoblock my country because the data protection commission threatened them with a fine for selling children’s browsing history and they’d rather take it out on users than simply filter the accounts they auto-tagged as children out of the data they were selling. We left reddit for a reason. Imgur is no less moneygrabbing.)

I got all my accounts permabanned when I said Katherine Leavitt should be denied service and pepper sprayed at some restaurant.

If you are here and you haven't been perma banned from reddit. I question your integrity and values.

    Burn the bridge.

    Burn it all down.

I just never logged there again since ... hum ... about a week before the Grand Reddit Exodus whenever that was.

I think I've tried once since and it didn't allow me, but I'm not sure I remember the date right, and I'm not in the mood to try again.

    I'm relevant.

Jerboa is better, but still a lot of echo chambers.

Guessing you meant Lemmy instead of Jerboa

I've recently hopped to Piefed since they have a keyword filter helps reduce the self-congratulatory noise of a lot of it but it's still the same people/fediverse and some of it is just everywhere on the internet

The mobile app selection also isn't as good

Have barely touched it since the API controversy. I can only see it declining as time goes on.

it was pretty much 50% bots around the time API disaster occured. after the great purges this year, it just accelerated the bots having to shore up the actual user numbers. since reddit realized they were purging too much, and unwilling to unban people, they switched to background purges.

i DON'T use reddit that much lately, just occasionally. seriously!

I just abandoned it years ago. 'deleting' the account won't do much of anything than not displaying the account to user side anymore or move it to a internal only database. At least that's what I would do if I could and companies regularly do much worse.

I'm not deleting mine, but I haven't used it since they killed RiF.

I might need a very high karma, very old Reddit account at some point in the future... For reasons...

How should I feel when reddit starts deleting and shadowbanning my alt accounts?

  • source
  • [–] 1 point 8 months ago

I remember deleting my account around when they introduced their recap things. I don't want to know where I posted/commented/viewed a lot. And I DEFINITELY don't want the app tracking all that.
