England consulted their handy strategy chart before deciding if they should help you 
Alliances and defensive pacts in Vicky 3 are completely worthless. The worst part is that it doesn't even notify you when they inevitably break it six months after signing, so you spend several years thinking you're good only to get dogpiled and realize you've got no allies.
