Can't give Don all the credit here. Biden imposed a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs and 50% on Chinese solar cells to kickstart the American century of obsolescence.
I believe it was Obama who actually kickstarted this whole thing, decimated the few domestic solar companies around.
I trace it to the magna carta

Affordable electric cars at home:
At this point only the Koreans can save EVs here but even they’re getting burned by amerikkka
Imagine Hyundai and Kia being your best hopes for decent electric cars lol
Great move ensuring there is not only no industry for producing solar panels but also no industry for installing solar panels.
This chart really shows the stark difference between the two countries, which is to be expected, as neoclassical economics treats energy as an intermediate good, rather than as the foundation of basically every economic sector today.
Everything needs energy, and you can't just substitute it with something else. China recognizes this, and is expanding renewable energy production faster than the rest of the world combined. I suspect this blind spot will haunt the US for decades to come as their industries become increasingly noncompetitive due to high energy prices.
We're putting all our eggs in the AI basket.
Good thing it doesn't require cheap energy
