Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

We all know the hypocrisies of the pro- Israel stances, I’m not going into specific arguments but it’s just everywhere. Normal people seem to have bought in even quicker than they did with supporting Ukraine. it’s awful. Free Palestine.

The news has been presenting events in the context of, "Gaza is a Sovereign Terrorist Nation that Invaded Israel's Borders to do Genocide, those goddamn Terrorists never learn".

Can't expect people to know history they were never taught. It is completely awful.

I have a coworker who's Jewish and has absolutely terrible political takes, he seems down this week, but I haven't tried asking why because I am not sure how I will react to his shit. I don't think anyone has mentioned what's going on because everyone at work (tech company) lives in their own little world.

They may be discussing "thought experiments" like "what if the solution to the Palestinian conflict... was the blockchain?"

Yesterday, I decided to dive in and peek at the media's coverage of the situation in my country.

It's bad, really bad. The libs are openly praising the fascists for calling the left parties antisemitic because they say killing Palestinians is bad, ministry has declared any pro-Palestine (whatever that means) protest illegal. :yea:

Shit sucks bad, but there is a non-negligent amount of resistance, don't forget that the media apparatus isn't organic at all and it shows. I'm trying to make time to go to a meeting for the liberation of Georges Abdallah next week.

My university (A liberal SUNY in western ny) just released a statement "condemning" the violence of "terrorist attacks" of Hamas.

fml (though I'm excited for the juicy arguments IRL).

I'm not interested in talking to libs or conservatives irl about this but they have no fucking problem giving their uninformed, genocidal takes on the situation to me when I never ask. Like I cant avoid it by not engaging because then they'll start talking to someone else about it while around me agony-shivering

Israel? Gaza? Sorry I have a tough time with geography. They don't like each other?

I LOVE acting this way when political hot topics come up irl.

So funny to listen to people explain their uninformed understanding of the situation

Israel is like Hogwarts and Hamas are the Deatheaters.

We need to update this to Gen Alpha terms:

Israel are like the TV monitors and Gaza are the Skibidi Toilets

After the libs making themselves hoarse and crazy by shouting "RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA!..." like Rachel Maddow - I didn't think they could get worse. How wrong I was. The craziest thing I've seen is libs trying to compare Gaza/Hamas to Russia.

An example is the following article. I tried to read it but the text is a crazy person half-heartedly trying to make a nonsense argument out of pure gibberish.

There Are No Rules

States and quasi-states are using extreme, uninhibited violence against civilian populations.

By Anne Applebaum

[...]

Hamas is not a sovereign state, but it has the full backing of Iran, a sovereign state, and funding from Qatar, a sovereign state. Since 2006, Hamas has also been the de facto ruling party in Gaza, a self-governing territory since the Israeli withdrawal in 2005. Nevertheless Hamas does not see itself as part of any kind of order...

And such takes are always ahistorical. There are no rules now? There have never been rules for the powerful. During World War II in a ~24 hour period - the US killed more people with conventional weapons than died by the nuclear strikes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

A US general said if Japan had won the war - they would have been charged with war crimes.

Bombing of Tokyo (10 March 1945)

On the night of 9/10 March 1945, the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) conducted a devastating firebombing raid on Tokyo, the Japanese capital city. This attack was code-named Operation Meetinghouse... Bombs dropped from 279 Boeing B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers burned out much of eastern Tokyo. More than 90,000 and possibly over 100,000 Japanese people were killed, mostly civilians, and one million were left homeless, making it the most destructive single air attack in human history.
