Poland foreign minister Radosław Sikorski suggest this move in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine (original link in German - behind paywall).

“We as NATO and the EU could be capable of doing this, but it is not a decision that Poland can make alone; it can only be made with its allies,” Sikorski said, referring to extending such missions to Ukrainian airspace.

The minister noted that protecting the population, for example, from falling debris, would be more effective if Poland could counter drones and other aerial objects beyond its national territory.

“If Ukraine were to ask us to shoot them down over its territory, that would be advantageous for us. If you ask me personally, we should consider it,” Sikorski added.

I'm sure there are good reasons as well as cowardly ones for not warning the public that this war has already long trickled out into the rest of Europe. But I think it's past time to start calling out Russia publicly to build support for EU intervention in Ukraine and counter the Russian propaganda.

But to do that they would need to join the war and start shooting down Russian airplanes, etc.

I am wondering what the alternative would be as Russia is increasingly testing the waters?

Not necessarily no, the calls for a no fly zone are mostly asking for it over western Ukraine. Russian manned planes don't fly that deep into Ukraine, much too dangerous, so a no fly zone over that area would only shoot down unmanned objects, drones and missiles.

This should have been done yesterday. With Russias latest attempt to provoke Poland and Romania, I believe we should go even further.

Why should't we take down things that are heading for a town or a city?
