How can people say baby to their SO? I find it so off putting
I did too and then I had an SO tell me they liked it, so I tried to get used to it because I wanted to do so for them. Now it's second nature and I don't think twice or get that weird awkward cringe feeling when I say it anymore.

My last apartment had pretty thin walls... could always hear my neighbors going at it. Obviously one couple doesn't speak to the whole population but there's plenty other examples on the web we can find, I'm sure.
We call each other "baby love" sometimes, because we saw a guy on 90 day fiance call their partner that and it was so cringe-inducing that we started saying it ironically. Somewhere down the line that irony kinda faded though..
