There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

US officials confirm the U.S is discussing whether a second U.S. aircraft carrier should be deployed to the eastern Mediterranean because of the Israel-Hamas crisis. USS Eisenhower was previously scheduled to leave Norfolk this week for the Middle East via the Med.

Palestine and its steadfast and patient people are calling you from the heart of the Al-Aqsa Flood battle. Heed the call, mobilize all energies, and mobilize, light and heavy, to support Al-Quds, Al-Aqsa, and the struggling Gaza.

From Palestine, the land of the Journey [of the Prophet], and from Al-Quds and its outskirts, we raise this call to the hearts and ears of the living conscience in the hearts of the masses of our Arab and Islamic nation.

It is a day to gather support, solidarity, and participation, a day to expose the crimes of the occupation, isolate it, and thwart all its aggressive schemes. It is a day to show our love for Palestine, Al-Quds, and Al-Aqsa, a day of redemption, heroism, sacrifice, and the honor of defending the first Qibla of Muslims, the third holiest site, and the ascension of the trustworthy Prophet.

Secondly: We salute our revolutionary youth in all of the West Bank, in its cities, villages, and uprising camps, and in the neighborhoods and districts of Al-Quds and the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. We call them for mass mobilization, to shake the ground beneath the feet of the zionist invaders and their herds of settlers, to confront their soldiers and cowardly army everywhere, affirming the unity of fate and the path towards Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa, and their liberation from the desecration of the zionist fascist occupation.

Thirdly: O our people in the occupied interior of 1948, O people of dignity and heroism, those who have endured much to preserve their Palestinian Arab identity, this day is your day to mobilize, gather, and unite in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. Let us protect it, its Islamic character, and its heavenly message. Let us prevent the settler herds from desecrating it and foil the fascist occupation's plans to divide and Judaize it, and to build its alleged Temple. Let us unify with the sons of your people in Gaza and the West Bank.

Fourthly: We call upon the masses of our Arab and Islamic nation and the masses of our Palestinian people everywhere, in refugee camps and in the diaspora, to march towards the borders of beloved Palestine in massive crowds, declaring our solidarity with Palestine, Al-Quds, and Al-Aqsa. If geography prevents them, let them gather at the nearest point towards Al-Aqsa.

Fifthly: We call upon the free people of the world to mobilize in solidarity with our Palestinian people and to support their just cause and legitimate rights to freedom, independence, return, and self-determination.

O sons of our people, O masses of our Arab and Islamic nation, O all free people,

Palestine calls upon you, and Al-Aqsa calls upon you, waiting for you to fulfill the duty of brotherhood and dignity to participate with our people and their resistance, the honor of defending the blessed land of Palestine and defending the dignity and glory of the nation in its Quds and its ascension [of the Prophet, Al-Quds.]

I'm gonna post a page from Tyler Shipley's Canada in the World on Israel, I highly recommend this book to my Canadian comrades.

Indeed, there is much to learned about colonialism and capitalism in the transition from the late 1930s, when the leaders of the Western world conspired to facilitate the extermination of European Jews, to the late 1940s, when those same leaders effectively gave permission for conditional Jewish entry into the club of white, colonial nations. Abigail Bakan theo- rizes this transition, noting a confluence of factors in the postwar era that contributed to this. First, within Jewish communities, the hitherto marginal ideology of Zionism that called for the creation of Israel along European colonial lines in Palestine suddenly possessed great currency, given the conscious failure of the Western world to prevent the Holocaust." Second, that complicity in the Holocaust was rooted in Western states' desire to prevent significant Jewish immigration; the creation of Israel provided a kind of moral redemption for the West even while it solved their "Jewish Problem" by funnelling immigration elsewhere. Third, the emerging Cold War made it politically valuable to have a controllable ally in the Middle East, a geostrategic fact that would grow in importance as movements for pan-Arab nationalism coalesced in the 1950s.

Finally, and perhaps most important, postwar Zionism embodied the ideals of European colonialism, which were still deeply rooted (and, indeed, foundational in settler societies like the US and Canada); the "new jew" was aggressive, masculine and willing to enslave and exploit a lesser race in order to build a capitalist enclave. In that sense, the ticket to modern whiteness was precisely the project to create, in Palestinians, a backwards, uncivilized people worthy of colonial occupation, debase- ment and ethnic cleansing." The archetypal colonizer, Winston Churchill expressed his support for the Zionist project precisely by framing it in terms of racial and colonial hierarchies:

I do not agree that the dog in the manger has the final right to the manger, even though he may have lain there for a very long time. I do not admit that right. I do not admit, for instance, that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America, or the black people of Australia. I do not admit that a wrong has been done to those people by the fact that a stronger race, a more worldly. wise race, to put it that way, has come in and taken their place."

For Jews to be white, they had to take up the White Man's Burden, Israel was that project. Israel would be a settler capitalist state par exe lence, modelling itself after the Anglo-American conquests of North America, the exclusionary settler regimes in South Africa and Australia, and even the Nazi apparatus that had sought the complete destruction of European Jewry." Israel did all this during a period when the thrust of history seemed to point in the opposite direction, towards at least formal decolonization if not outright anti-colonial revolution.

I missed about 3 hours and I'm not posting all the conflicts happening. Let's just say there's about 40 different rocket, mortar or drone events happening between Lebanon and Israel border right now.

Rumours even that Israeli jets were seen over Beirut earlier.

Interesting to note, Iran has an anti ship missile called Zolremovedhar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolremovedhar_(missile)

This is a copy of the Chinese Dongfeng. And is likely capable of sinking a carrier.

We have no idea if or who they might have supplied this to in the region. Range of 700km puts the current US carrier fleet in range if any of these are supplied to forces in Lebanon.

Very in range, the fleet to my knowledge is a couple hundred km south west of Cyprus.
