Ah my nemesis has shown themself

Complete display of failure on the part of the KDE developers for not calling it "Klock" or something similar

[-] kautau@lemmy.world 50 points 5 months ago

Yeah those devs used to be Konquerors

KDE Plasma - The only OS UI where sorting apps alphabetically is pretty useless.

[-] Capricorn_Geriatric@lemmy.world 33 points 5 months ago

If you want systems utilities, no need to look at the entire app list or a special exception for the sort! Just go look into the K area instead. A few other apps may invade the space, but all your system apps are gonna be in one place!

I thought most DEs gave apps generic names on their .desktop these days? gedit -> text editor, file-roller -> archive manager, baobab -> disk usage analyzer, etc.

maybe just a Mint thing, I actually used to struggle to find the actual name of an app there

Its never wise to put that many k's that close together.

[-] alezyn@feddit.org 40 points 5 months ago

In Germany we have the same thing with S’s, that’s why we invented ß

/s just in case

[-] StrixUralensis@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 13 points 5 months ago
[-] Pechente@feddit.org 10 points 5 months ago

I propose that we change it to Fitneßßtudio just to be safe.

[-] alezyn@feddit.org 5 points 5 months ago

Next thing you know they’ll do 10 minutes on the “Marschband” for warm up and then 3 sets of “Armheben”.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Three is okay, that’s just a snake.

That's just how you write "clock" in Norwegian (klokke)

[-] gaybriel_fr_br@jlai.lu 2 points 5 months ago

Unless you're Brazilian.

[-] Zier@fedia.io 41 points 5 months ago

That's krazy. That kant be legal. All KDE must be Kool branded.

[-] kadup@lemmy.world 29 points 5 months ago

While I love the fun of having a pattern like that... It's actually kinda dumb (with all due respect) that KDE had a naming convention of starting every app with K, and at the same time, a standard app menu that lists applications alphabetically.

Which means if you install a standard, expected "clean" version of KDE Plasma and it's default apps, the alphabetical sorting is almost useless yet it's the primary UX element of the most important menu in the interface.

Still love KDE though.

[-] kureta@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 months ago

Never thought of it like that. You're right.

[-] zeca@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 months ago

Besides, the search from klauncher should probably show kalendar if i type calendar, its a bit annoying to have to remember these alternative spellings

[-] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 27 points 5 months ago

It's okay, GNOME picked up the slack with Galculator

[-] Lumisal@lemmy.world 19 points 5 months ago

[-] aliser@lemmy.world 20 points 5 months ago

I hate how some modern apps are just misspelled words.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 5 months ago

Like Google instead of "googol?"

LXQT version: Qlock

[-] Randelung@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Kloq

Bonus: Qt WMs can call it Qlok.

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I remember using KDE back in the day and that so many applications started with K that using the start menu to look for my application was jarring.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Make it death metal themed so it can be named DethKlock 🤘

[-] Burninator05@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

The most brutal OS ever.

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

We're here to make timekeeping metal. We're here to make everything metal. Blacker than the blackest black... times infinity.

Your alarm now has a 99% chance of murdering you brutally

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 months ago

I'm disappointed.

[-] normalexit@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Recently switched to kde, and I've been enjoying it. The hardest part is the app names.

[-] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 months ago

Unrelated but what fediverse social is this?

[-] Ludrol@szmer.info 6 points 5 months ago

Screenshot was made in app.wafrn.net

[-] Dreaming_Novaling@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

God I hope wafrn takes off in a few years, I wanna leave Tumblr. Also got a silly email being shamed by the devs for not interacting much after my initial joining 😅
