China is notably the only country in the world where it’s illegal to try to overthrow the government

[-] [email protected] 77 points 4 days ago

a large part of the population lives in poverty, has terrible work conditions, and suffers from persecutions for various reasons

ah so it's the EU then

listen, i'm an american. i only want people incarcerated because of their race as it intersects with volatile and ever-changing social attitudes toward different drugs. as god intended!

I love how they trot out the same tired arguments as though we hadn't been hearing them all our lives. Then the moment we display more knowledge on the subjects than they do, they just call us tankies and shut down. It's kind of fascinating how they aggressively maintain their own ignorance while sincerely believing they're the smartest people in the room at all time.

They've been convinced that they are surrounded by propaganda from the state enemy at all times. Any and all attempts to sway their mind are automatically considered examples of this.

The liberal free marketplace of ideas does not apply to propaganda from the state enemy. Germ theory does.

You can't protect yourself from it with critical thinking. It has magical properties which make it dangerous even to try. The only way is to prevent any and all contact whatsoever. That means calling it out and rejecting it from your mind and community the moment you start to feel cognitive dissonance.

Fuck, that cuts to the core of it. Like how the writings of Stalin and Hitler are "equally" (not equally) considered to be some kind of cursed tome that will posess you if you even try to understand it instead of just...some writing. They really do think that communist literature is some kind of chaos artifact with the power to bend minds and reality, because the alternative would be realizing that they live in a constructed reality that is easily refuted, and they're far too smug for that. They have to pretend that the only way anyone could disagree with them is through the provenance of dark magic.

Reminds me of how the capital-A Atheist community's model of treating religion as a mental pathogen paved the way for them to rail years later against the "woke mind virus."

They won't read this. They'll just take this thread and go post it on their instances about how we love hate speech and genocide, without actually reading anything in this thread.

[-] [email protected] 35 points 4 days ago

Yeah, but if that brings someone else in here that isn't a total loser they might read it and start to think for themselves. Gotta play the numbers.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 4 days ago

Hey that's how I became a commie

[-] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

I love how they quote the bit about the West helping Israel, and do nothing to refute it.

Even if China is 100% the dystopian nightmare that they say it is, it's not committing genocide, it's not part of the same community of nations that have been doing imperialism for 200 years, and it's something that we have any voice in unlike the West where we can make our own leaders' lives uncomfortable for helping a genocide.

This is why my immediate response to a lib "whatabout Hamas"-ing me is "My tax dollars don't fund Hamas."

Seriously... Whatever imperfections modern tibet may have, prior to the revolution, it was feudal. Iirc a simple majority of the people were serfs - which isn't chattel slavery, sure, but is absolutely a form of unfree labour. The idea that it's somehow worse now than when they carried out amputations as a form of corporal punishment is wholly unserious.

It's the super secret China persecution that only level 10 liberals know about. You literally have to be in Hillary's WhatsApp group chat to have information on this.

The Situation in Taiwan

[-] [email protected] 25 points 4 days ago

Even if all this were true, it still pales next to the misery in the global south that fuels the wealth of the EU.

[-] [email protected] 20 points 4 days ago

the guy claiming in that thread claiming that what is happening to uighurs is "worse than being killed" has me laughing in disbelief. childlike argumentation tactics

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

List of Things Worse Than Being Killed (incomplete):

  • the government building thousands of km of high speed rail through empty plains to connect your region to the urban core and the capitol
  • building semi permanent settlements for historically nomadic peoples to winter in, allowing them to preserve their rich cultural heritage, traditions, and way of life while enjoying the conveniences of modern life
  • providing education and work programs for those with antisocial tendencies such as religious extremism, low empathy, and psychopathy
  • lifting millions out of poverty in one of the most poverty stricken, religious extremist, violent, and slaving regions in the entire world, creating a safe and modern regional capital worthy of the world stage full of development and opportunity

China: can't even be sometimes better than the West

The "sometime" in question: supporting a genocide in Palestine

How do these people think their perspective isn't biased as shit? Of course they're the first to lecture you about sources and biases and perspectives. Here's some wiki to read in not Chinese.
