Calling in bomb threats is standard for the GOP.
Particularly if there's a ballot box around
Reminder that conservatives are domestic terrorists.
Are we starting the civil war early? I honestly thought it wouldn't be for at least another year or two..
Texas Rangers could round them all up, kneel them down in the parking lot and execute them with shotguns live on Fox News, and I'd still bet money on nobody actually doing anything about it.
The average person needs to be truly desperate and not just slightly to moderately struggling for that to kick off.
No, I'm pretty sure an execution on live TV would get a response. I wouldnt just sit here and watch that happen, I know im just one person. But, if politicians start getting executed by other politicians and the state, that brings things to a whole other level. At that point, anybody who just sits there might as well call them complicit.
You, I, or any other American could have done something at a line in the sand that was crossed in reality (like secret police kidnapping people in broad daylight and shipping them to gulags), rather than imagining we would do something in a hypothetical line in the sand that they may cross at some point. But we didn't, and the very few of us who did were almost completely impotent.
What exactly is the point of this comment? Are you trying to disparage me for not attacking ICE agents? Get the fuck out of here if thats your point. I know what i will do if ICE agents come knocking in my neighborhood. You dont get to sit here on your high horse and talk down to me for not starting a revolution already. This isnt 1861. You pick up a gun and start attacking the federal government, chances are you will die.
That's always been the case. You need to bring friends.
It's much different now. The balance of power has been skewed very far towards the state in ways it wasn't before.
My ancestor sniped federal officials in the 1800s by just waiting for them to be between two towns. I can assure you unless it was the army you didn't need friends, helped for sure but it wasn't a necessity.
Executions of Gazan are live streamed on social media every day and there's literally no response from any government that can easily stop it.
Yeah, im not a citizen of Gaza. I am not cool with that either. But I have to focus my mental energy on my own country, where I actually live...
The problem w this is that most of us can't and it's by design; our respective countries are doing this in our name and we're intentionally saddled w too much shit to care enough to make our gov'ts stop doing it.
That same saddling is going to make us not care once they start executing our own countrymen if we can't get them to stop executing foreigners.
You sat here and watched Jan 6 happen. The line has been crossed already.
ok, what would be your response
Yeah, let me just tell the whole internet in a public forum what I would do..thats the smart thing to do...
What was it—nine meals away?
Speed run, remember?
Yeah, yeah, I remember. Doesn't mean it have to like it.
It already started.
This is terrorism, plain and simple.
Oh look, Republican terrorism.
Americans should be calling in bomb threats anytime a Republican legislature meets anywhere in the country. There's more than one way to ensure shitty legislation never gets passed.
It was incredibly stupid for Prizker to just openly say they were staying at his hotel.
But he's a billionaire, this is all just a game to him, he wins either way.
He wasn't going to turn down the attention and publicity
He's a billionaire, but his actions over the course of his tenure as Illinois governor have backed up his progressive policy stances.
In a hypothetical situation where he's on stage talking to the masses, I'd still have the guillotine sharpened and in his periphery but he has earned at least some good will in his political actions. No one else was offering these Texas lawmakers a place to stay.
You can separate a person's background with their policy stances.
Someone like Pritzker should be praised for supporting democratic and progressive moves, just the same as someone from a destitute background calling for regressive reform and inequality should be shamed. Even if you feel more sympathy for the latter's background.
Pritzker should be praised for supporting democratic and progressive moves
He should not.
Because his stance aren't determined by what is right or fair.
It's solely based on the least that will satisfy the masses. At the end of the day if every single thing Pritzker honestly wanted to be done was accomplished, he'd still be a billionaire and we'd all still be fucked.
Just not fucked enough for a revolution to be a threat to his wealth.
Billionaires are scared of 2028 and a fair primary, don't fall for the BS where they pretend to be for change. If they really are then they currently hold enough wealth to effect change any day they want to.
Like, literally in this scenario.
Pritzker has the personal wealth and resources to hide these politicians away where they'd never be found. Instead he publicly and proudly announced they'd be staying at his hotel, when any idiot who's paid attention to politics in the last decade new it made that hotel a lightning rod for not just threats but attacks.
Which would also make Pritzker look like he was "fighting" at the cost of not I ly these politicians safety, but also his employees and other guests.
I legitimately can't believe this performative shit is working....
Name me a person with the perfect leftist-certified record and background, whose house the Texas House Reps. should stay at.
(Edited to add) Pritzker is providing protection to these Texans within his capacity as Governor of Illinois, not as a private billionaire. Governor Hochul of NY, Governor Newsom of CA, Governor Ferguson of WA, Governor Healey of MA could have taken the same steps hosting these people in their respective states for each their own reasons. Sure Newsom wants to become President someday, Hochul wants to curry favour with the rising tide of Mamdani, etc etc but at the end of the day, whoever it is should be judged for their action within that role, not past stuff or future personal ambitions.
To give an analogy: Say someone who did something horrible later funded a public school. Is it not enough to admonish and prosecute the horrible act? Or, are we secretly in support of the horrible act unless we demolish the school as well?
Name me a person with the perfect leftist-certified record and background, whose house the Texas House Reps. should stay at.
He's not hiding them in the attic...
He, a billionaire hotel heir, put them up in a hotel...
To give an analogy
What your analogy is missing, is that it would have been more secure to not say where they were...
Instead of giving a press conference saying where they were which...
Checks notes
Is exactly what Pritzker did. Because this was about optics and setting himself up for a 2028 presidential run.
If he wants to help, he can redistribute 3 billion in wealth back to the people and still have over 200 million in personal wealth.
He ponies up and I'll shut up. But no billionaire can authentically be on the side of the people.
Frankly, I'm tired of leaders responding to bomb threats. No one who actually intends on bombing something sends a bomb threat. Giving in to a bomb threat is an act of cowardice. And it gives the terrorists exactly what they want. Unless you actually have some intelligence about a bomb threat being real, they should be ignored in all cases.
And no, before anyone says it, I give zero credence to the spineless attitude of "well, better safe than sorry!" I'm sorry. But letting bomb threats disrupt gatherings is not a neutral act. It is surrendering to terrorism and giving terrorists exactly what they want. It's corporations and organizers covering their asses, nothing more.
The correct way to respond to a bomb threat is to refer it to police and completely ignore it. Today it's just way too easy to send anonymous communications for us to treat every bomb threat seriously. And really, no one that actually intends to bomb something sends a warning in advance.
Back before left wing protesters got defanged they would call in bomb threats because they wanted to only do property damage, and to demonstrate the capacity to kill without actually having to do it
It was a big thing in the era of actual eco terrorism.
If anti-fascists don't start using the full range of tactics available to us, we are going to lose.
