Not an expert but that doesn't sound promising.

Isn’t this…SOP? Like, that’s one of the reasons James Gunn has specifically said he won’t do a movie unless there’s a finished script?

I feel like they have basic ideas in place and a majority of the script but like to adapt based on new ideas or problems that they encounter while putting together their movies.

In my uninformed opinion, it's likely a part connecting Act 2 to Act 3 that they aren't totally happy with and are trying to either smooth out or replace.

What is SOP in this context??

Standard operating procedure. They often leave scripts unfinished so they have ways to change things up as they see fit.

See this reply to me for context.

It’s either that or actors are only given specific parts of scripts that relate to their character and not the whole thing. It’s been talked about a lot.

I see.. People in colourful costumes, explosions...
Brilliant! Call the actors, I'm getting a crew together. Oh, and see if you can find someone to flesh the script out a bit. We start filming on monday.

Depends what she means by it. It's completely normal for rewrites and reshoots to happen during the filmmaking process, simply because some stuff that works on paper just doesn't translate that well on screen, and sometimes the actors do something on the fly that is better than what was in the script, but that triggers rewrites to accommodate the change.

If Marvel actually didn't have a completed script before the initial shooting began, that would be potentially worrying, but highly unusual.

When was the last time Marvel Studios did something that sounded promising?

[-] TheImpressiveX@lemmy.today 7 points 8 months ago

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Sounded promising, was meh in reality. It was so formulaic and boring. You knew the outcome from the beginning, and none of the characters were particularly interesting, let alone likeable. Whereas Superman even made the dickhead green lantern likeable. I've always hated Superman and the surrounding characters but Tim Gunn made a FAR better movie out of less interesting characters (to me) than marvel made with beloved characters. Marvel just is losing what made it great. And that was the connection to the characters and heart. Superman has heart and likeable characters. Fantastic 4 had formulaic bullshit and characters that were boring.

Yeah, 3 days ago lmao. They're starting to improve again though this doesn't bode well.

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

That movie was mid at BEST. it's overrated because it doesn't suck compared to their recent trash, but it's not actually good.

[-] tgirlschierke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 8 months ago

how do you write this franchise for 17 years and still not figure out production

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Because studio execs are morons

[-] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 21 points 8 months ago

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Still is, honestly.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 19 points 8 months ago

So basically it's going to be a really shitty movie

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago

I don't understand how fantastic 4 is so well received. It's "meh" at best.

[-] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

"Meh" is a praise for most of post infinity war Marvel.

[-] f1error 15 points 8 months ago
