I don’t understand this. Why are you targeting gay people? You wouldn’t put this up with replacing it with Black, Latino/Latina, Jewish, Muslim, etc.

Whether it points to positive or negative, why does it have to be a gay person? I guess I’m missing something about what this is meant to be for/do?

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago

Just curious, but do you have statistics to back that up or are you just angry with Americans and making a statement?

As an American, I don’t even know what most people’s decision to not vote is beyond a multitude of reasons I have read about.

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Sounds like you don’t understand the people of America. Yes, the people vote and we have an electorate that is supposed to vote on what people want.

However, a vast majority of Americans do not turn out to vote. Either they can’t because of logistics (e.g., gerrymandering, can’t get time off of work, etc), they abstain, or some other reason. We still, historically, have under half of the population actually turn out to vote. Voter turnout graph of the United States by share of population.

The thing that is baffling to me about this is why the Guthries? If this is as sophisticated as it seems, then why a well known journalist? There are hundreds or thousands more targets with way more money and/or clout from a social standpoint. This just seems like a weird target.

I saw someone say in another comment on a different article that she did some of the first investigating into Epstein stuff? Is this purely a political threat and warning to others?

Edit:

From the transcripts below the video:

Johnson said national databases could help narrow down a suspect.

Is this a hit job to test out databases and make it look like they’re a good idea to ease American minds into supporting them? Once again, this almost screams political.

Or am I just tinfoil hatting?

She’s (the relative) lucky she can do that. Some districts or schools have homework policies. As I am finishing up my master’s for elementary education, if I can get away with NOT assigning homework then that’s what I will do. They are kids and need their mental breaks as well. There’s research that shows homework doesn’t correlate to better learning or growth. It’s just busy work and play is really good for kids’ minds.

If anything, I will encourage them to read and tell me what cool thing(s) they are reading about the next morning!

Thank you! I’m a late career changer (in my early 40s), but I am loving it so far! I am student teaching in fifth grade currently and absolutely love it. I just want to do things that help others and I feel that teaching is one of those ways I can positively impact a kid’s life.

It probably helps that I’m also a dad, so I do have that empathy and an appreciation of kids and their humor as well.

I’m in my master’s program for elementary education. If I saw this, I would just pull them to the side and ask them to translate it to me as English. If it comes out sounding plausible, I’d give them full points because they knew how to say it. They could obviously already read it since they knew how to answer the question. So the writing could come later if that was an issue. I could even try and decode it with a translator first before asking for their translation just to see if they were bullshitting me.

If it was a joke, I’d let it slide but let them know that in the future I need them to write it fully in English.

I think his comment was really just him acknowledging UAPs and referring to them generically as “aliens”. That’s why he’s never “seen” them. He can’t confirm or deny little green men in these weird flying craft so his answer is he believes but he has not actually seen one.

Or he was just being cheeky for a fun clip. 🤷‍♂️

No idea why you’re downvoted. You’re right.

She’s not wrong. It’s just that her agents are causing the war part.

I was looking at Peacemaker cast to learn more about some of them and I clicked on Nhut Le and I scrolled slightly and saw those Quick Facts that Google put in.

I had to share because this was too hilarious. 😂 HOW did they mess that up?!

Edit: i reported it to Google as incorrect info. Others should too.

Gaming Laptop Recs? (lemmy.world)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by WindyRebel@lemmy.world to c/asklemmy@lemmy.world

Hi all, my son is 11 and a gamer. He does a lot of Roblox (yeah, I know) but also has gaming interests outside of Roblox. He is getting into more robust games. He also likes to record and make YouTube videos of his gaming.

He had a Razer Blade 15 and it crapped out after a year (RMA says motherboard). I had the extended warranty and they are giving me a cash settlement (check) for what I paid for the computer because Razer apparently said they cannot replace the part as it’s not available anymore.

So, did I just have bad luck with the Blade and should I go for another in the Blade series OR go with a different gaming laptop replacement?

I’m researching on my own, but also looking for recommendations from people that have knowledge in this area.

Thank you!

Edit 1: Yes, it should be a laptop. My child likes to switch environments and space is also an issue. Eventually we will consider a desktop, but I am looking for laptop suggestions.

While not part of this DCU, the man was an icon bringing one of Superman’s top villains to life.

I used to see him all over the place and now nothing. I checked his post history and it’s been 24 days since he last posted anything.

I don’t know the guy or have any personal stake, but seeing someone everywhere just suddenly disappear is odd.

As a kid I hated veggies but as I got older I really enjoy some veggies, especially broccoli, roasted in a drizzle of olive oil and a little seasoning.

As an American, I also used to abhor vegemite when I tried it until I learned how to properly spread it on toast during my visit over there and I’m obsessed now!

What did you hate, but gave a second chance to? I’d love to try some new stuff!

Hello, I’ve never traveled internationally post smart phone world but I have Verizon and I added the month international plan so I can use my phone over in Australia.

I got the instructions back and it seems that I just need to turn roaming on and that’s it? I don’t need to activate a different eSIM or anything? Does anyone have experience with this on Verizon? It seems too easy and I’m worried I’ve missed something somewhere.

Big fan of Matt Colville. I own Flee, Mortals the book and the PDF. I use the pdf in my games, but having everything in dndbeyond is also amazing. I think I’ll purchase it again and get Where Evil Lives too.

I’m stoked about all of the 3rd party content getting added such as Kobold Press. It’s making this digital stuff very worth it!

What does everyone else use and/or recommend?

Anyone watch it yet? I am still processing it. I don’t know if I liked it or not.

Thoughts and spoilers hereI was expecting more closure

  • Zillo beast was just in this whole series as a plot point to allow Omega to escape?
  • Rex and his crew had no resolution
  • Time jump with Omega in the Rebellion and literally no mention of her anywhere else?
  • What happened to Cody?
  • Why was Scorch done so dirty as a glorified name drop, he would’ve been covering their rear to make sure no one snuck up on them
  • Nothing about any of Tantiss’s other potential secrets
  • The clones didn’t have resolution. They’re just scattered across Pabu and Pantora?
  • The brain washed/mind controlled clones were cool but ultimately useless and easily defeated after spending all previous encounters handing everyone’s asses to them
  • Bunch of force sensitive kids out now to be discovered by Luke? Hunted by Vader?
  • Assaj was just there to tell us Omega was force sensitive? They could’ve used anyone to reveal this
  • Will Omega show up in Skeleton Crew or the crossover movie/show?

Hey all, please direct me to any community that would better serve me for this question and I will gladly delete here and move it there.

My conundrum: I have an old dining room table that is 30” high, 71” long, and 37.5” wide. It’s in my basement and sits against the wall when not in use and can be pulled out for room to sit on all sides.

I have 5 adult players and am adding a 6th to our table. It’s fine except for needing room for snacks and player accessories (sheets, dice, dice trays, etc).

I thought about getting a larger table that is foldable.

My other thought is what kind of accessories could I get that would help them be able to place things on the table but also leave room for my mat and miniatures? Is there anything that I could clamp on? Are there stands?

What options do I have? Money isn’t an object here, but I don’t want to have to break the bank if there are other options that I could do cheaper.

Between this, BG3 having non-binary options and same sex romances, bud light, etc doing things to let others feel noticed - Conservatives are gonna have nothing left to enjoy from boycotting.

I’m ok with this.

How do you afford quality cameras when your budget goes to militarization of the force?

We have next door neighbors that are Muslim and are so very kind. They bring us plates of food when they cook and they even scared away some kids trying to steal our car at 2 in the morning.

I wanted to return the favor with a nice card from us and a gift. I don’t know how strict they are with Halal, and I read that Halal-friendly might not be good enough so I’m weary of a gift card to a restaurant even if it says Halal.

So what kind of gift(s) would be appropriate for a thank you? I appreciate any help you all can provide!

I found myself in a specific community I am subscribed to and wanted to search only that community’s posts, but couldn’t.

I can search with the actual search function in app, but it would search all communities or all posts.
