To state an obvious flaw, what were you expecting to attract with an opening that large? A bird would need 1/4 the size or less.

Yeah this is a deathtrap for birds. Horrible design.

[-] [email protected] 41 points 4 days ago

At this point you're just feeding birds to the cats.

[-] [email protected] 37 points 4 days ago

Ah, so it's a bird feeder

[-] [email protected] 18 points 4 days ago

Yeah. Even without the cat, it's an open buffet for predator birds.

A bird large enough to need an opening that size while still tending to roost in trees...Great horned owl? Bald eagle? Turkey vulture? Turkey? Not many of them nest in holes in trees so probably wouldn't know what to do with a box.

Owls was my first thought, they would totall dig that box.

Could be bats, too.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Probably don't do bats so close to the house.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

You probably shouldn't do bats at all

[-] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah, I suppose even if the local bats had low risk of rabies or other disease depending on their species and food sources, the kind of bats that would nest in a structure like that would also infest buildings.

Yeah, we have a barred owl living nearby that would absolutely love that box. She looks to be about the size of a large cat.

I never really thought about an owl-sized birdhouse but yeah I guess a lot of them nest in hollows in tree trunks so why not?

Protected from weather and ambush, high vantage point to survey territory, and it's a BOX! Purrfect.

And feast might already be there when you move in

Fun fact, many birds can and will hiss when they feel threatened. Parrots and some larger birds come to mind

"Cobra chicken" aka Canadian Goose

Also known as parakeety

Next time search for pictures of bird houses and realize that you don’t use a hanger bay door for the entrance to a bird house.

Pretty sure it's an owl nesting box.

Why do the work when the food will come to you!?

😢

[-] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

It fits, so ... it sits

[-] [email protected] 19 points 4 days ago

It's like grub hub but for cats.

(Watch out birds!)
