Amazing! This made me smile.
You:
this is super sweet <3 nice color on that shell!
Is the screen okay for her vision? Might not be optimal..
Grandma doesn't mean elderly and blind. I'm 54 and could easily be a grandad. My wife is 54 and is a grandma, has been since she was 49.
The games I have for my grandma are: Tetris DX, Mario's Picross, Pokemon Yellow, Super Mario Bros Deluxe, and Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX.
This made me want to be nine years old and going on a long trip again.
I'm equally interested in your uncle's side hustle.
He does a bunch of chemistry to recover gold, platinum, and other metals from electronics. He made a gold nugget that he's named "Steven".
Might need to charge the batteries
Edit: also Picross is the shiznit
Batteries were very corroded, but fortunately white vinegar and q-tips fixed that problem quickly!
My grandma used to play the shit out of Dr Mario on her game boy.
My grandma said that she didn't think the depression was all that bad since she had hand squeezed orange juice from one of her 3 servants everyday. She had zero interest in any videogames my brother and i played.
Anyway, currently trying to beat the heat because my tiny apartment a block away from where she grew up doesn't have AC. Miss you grandma, but i sure wish the family haberdashery stayed successful past the 60"s.
I may do this with my second gameboy color. Any good ways to remove scuffs from the plastic shell?
if it's the plastic housing you could probably use some wd-40 on a soft rag like a sock or old T-shirt. make sure you clean it up with some IPA immediately afterwards though.
if it's the screen crystal you can buy replacements online for around $4-$8.
I keep plenty of stock of this stuff and use it on plastic screen covers and bezels, plus it also does wonders on motorcycle helmet visors, sunglasses lenses (provided they're not mirrored), and the Slipstreamer fairing on my Honda Shadow.
It does a credible job of defogging plastic headlight housings as well, but it takes a lot of elbow grease and a bitchin' long time.
This is really awesome. I super regret giving away my old Game Boy Color 10+ years ago
Gotta get grandma on that Metroid II grind too, King.
Damn. I want one
They're still out in the wild, and still work much of the time.
I just picked up an R36S, and I can't begin to say how much 80s and 90s nostalgia I'm enjoying.
That's sharp looking. Great gift!
Reminds me of the time I visited my grandma as a vacation. I brought my SNES including the Gameboy adapter. She loved Tetris even though she barely got past stage 1.
