This is totally different. Iran is working on weapons of mass destruction.

[-] [email protected] 24 points 2 weeks ago

I hear Iran is ready to attack us in 45 minutes...

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Aaany time now...

It wasn't before as verified by the US's own intelligence agencies, but it should definitely be working on them now after Israel's unprovoked act of aggression and the US clear intention to bomb it.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

I thought this wasn't sarcastic for a split second.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Even the US Intel agencies think they were nowhere near to having them.

Given how long Iran has been working on it, it was probably all bark and no bite.

Now, it's a different story.

Iraq didnt have and wasnt trying to get nukes, according to UN inspectors, etc. Maybe you are young(or an american), but here in Europe almost all media and people acknowledged that.

Iran is trying to get nukes, they are highly enriching large quantities of uranium, whose only purpose is the creation of nuclear bombs.

How close they are to getting a nuclear bomb is debatable.

Our presence was initially regarded hopefully by Iraqis, not that that justifies the invasion.

We managed to fuck it up in record time by selling contracts to 'rebuild' the country to grifters and attempting to reconstruct a government with zero (0) interest or intelligence regarding Iraqi needs and desires.

The fuckup was the moment where, against the wishes of allies, they decided to immediately dismantle the Iraqi military, meaning tens of thousands of trained fighters suddenly lost the ability to feed their families, and anyone with a bit of money could buy a ready-made militia with weapons and local knowledge advantage.

Gonna need a source on that one

Iraqi here!, I can confirm that people were optimistic of the invasion in the first 3 years or so in the hope that Americans would help iraq to re-establish itself thinking they would be a second Germany or Japan, then it all came crushing down with the civil war in 2006. Where America is now considered the evil that holds Iraq from moving in the right direction, and so began 20 years of destruction.
Edit: sorry for the typo.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

No, silly. Those countries were peers that had a chance of destroying us. It was in our best interest to make sure they viewed us as friendly from there on. Your country was a proxy colony, and that means you get jack while we take all your things /s

Gods I hate colonial thinking. From America especially, but in general as well.

https://www.gallup-international.com/survey-results-and-news/survey-result/shifts-in-iraqs-public-opinion-from-2003-to-2025

In 2004, shortly after the fall of the former regime, many Iraqis expressed optimism hopeful for a democratic transition, improved public services, and national recovery. However, this optimism began to erode by 2007, following the outbreak of sectarian violence in 2006 and the partial withdrawal of U.S. troops. Confidence plummeted, with only 45 % of Iraqis believing the country was on the right track.

Don't mistake the Iraq War being a clusterfuck that the US exploited under the Bush regime for ideological and corruption purposes with Saddam's regime being something that Iraqis were mourning to see go.

Hmm... I'm sceptical because it doesn't show the actual poll results (what % expressed optimism in 2003?) and it just says "many" Iraqis expressed optimism not even most but I'll give you the point there was some optimism briefly

From the link I literally posted:

62% in 2004.

I'm not shocked that anyone would be "hopeful" about the demise of Sadam Hussein.

The British Inquiry Into The Iraq War found evidence that both the US and the UK were guilty of the War Crime of Pillaging in Iraq, exactly because they forced the Iraqi Government which they themselves put in power to hire US and UK firms and to give US and UK firms oil exploration contracts.

Obviously, neither of the War Criminals (Bush and Blair) ever saw the inside of a jail cell, though I think somebody actually tried to do a citizens arrest of Tony Blair once.

In and out in three days just like Putin

[-] [email protected] -1 points 2 weeks ago

?

That's just what they tell you, cause they couldn't possibly say "wars are profitable to the shareholders in the MIC and any politician that goes along with them, and it only costs (other) human lives!"

Assume every take/narrative spread consistently by big, "approved" news station/talking head regarding geopolitics is repeated for the sake of imperialism. The powers that be in the West don't wanna make you feel like a baddie whilst conducting endless wars and massacres around the world and innocents cry for God while they pray for your deaths... so the propaganda definitely helps!

[-] [email protected] -3 points 2 weeks ago

Isn't the USA on reasonably good terms with Iraq though, all things considered?

[-] [email protected] 28 points 2 weeks ago

Oh yeah Iraq loves the USA, I mean they only bombed and murdered their innocent family members for 20 years.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

"why do they hate us?"

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's far better than most countries they've recently been to war with.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Iraq is friendly with Iran.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe if they finished killing off every Iraqi and moved Floridians and New Yorkers a la Israel, lol. Or if they brainwashed them to be in good terms with these global murderous rapists. But if not I assume they're all chanting "death to America", or at least they should.

After the Iraq invasion, the US wanted to remove all people who were related to the Saddam regime from the government. These people were mostly sunni muslims.

That meant that the shia minority was given control of the Iraqi government. These people were friendly or connected to Iran(which is also shia).

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Backwards. Shia are the majority. Power was mostly in sunni hands specifically because Saddam wanted to stamp out Iranian influence.

You are right, my bad.
