Me, with ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety.

[-] [email protected] 47 points 2 days ago

This is my hourly reminder that common knowledge was that girls "don't get ADHD" until fairly recently, so all the symptoms we developed trying to mask or as a result of abuse from our behaviors can often be identified first.

Which is why my treatment resistant major depressive disorder, which ruined my young suicidal life from age 9 to 34, has almost entirely resolved as a result of treating my ADHD.

I apologize if you've seen me say it before, but Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors can't work if there's no Seratonin to Inhibit!! SSRIs can't RI if there's no S!

It's almost exactly the same story for me.

Took me until age 37 and my experience with SSRIs has been BAD.

Losing all those years to depression is still a major bummer for me, leaving me low key depressed most times. And despite knowing all about it and managing it with routines and medication, my ADHD still often feels like a significant disability.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago

I'm almost positive this is my problem, but my local health system won't let me see a psychiatrist.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

ssri's dont do shit hf there's no serotonin in the first place

Im in this reply and i don't like it. Please stop

Love it! Also cool pfp!

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Wait do we mess up seratonine as well? I thought it’s dopamine.

I mean yeah. You spend your entire youth beating yourself because you can't seem to act on anything and struggle to connect. Of course you end up with depression and anxiety.

Also, it frequently is associated with sleep disorders. Not just insomnia, as you’d think. Narcolepsy, Restless Leg Syndrome, Sleep Apnea, etc.

Seems like there is a strong correlation between those parts of the brain.

ADHD and Sleep Problems: How Are They Related?

Actually, I have an appointment with a neurologist for my excessive sleepiness next week. If anyone wants to know about it, I’ll report back.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 21 hours ago

Please report back. I have excessive sleepiness too, but also anxiety about going to doctors, so not sure if i can do it myself

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I’m interested as well. I go entire nights without being able to close my eyes and the only response so far was to cut my adhd meds, thank you no thanks.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I bet you’d be like that if you didn’t take your ADHD meds anyway. People who say that don’t understand what it’s like.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Yes please. I am always tired too, but we are working on sleep apnea first for me.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Did you do a sleep study?

I haven’t done that yet. I’m fairly sure I don’t have sleep apnea, but maybe I’m wrong.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I did. I do have sleep apnea, but it is mild. Mild enough that they're hoping that fixing my bite will make the apnea go away. (My bite causes other problems so that would be a big win for me.) They will prescribe a CPAP if it's not enough.

I'm hoping I'll respond to these treatments enough that we won't need to dig any more, but I want to know just in case. It seems like I keep finding more information about how my brain working differently can make things more difficult for me, so I am always curious to read what others say about it.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

I hope it helps and you get some good rest. I’ll follow up once I meet with the neurologist and share what I learn.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Yes, please. I thought mine was anheodnia. Been tested for everything else, I think.

[-] [email protected] 21 points 2 days ago

I first read it as: you have friends who also have adhd because we tend to find eachother naturally instantly understand eachother....

[-] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

That happens to be also true

And don't forget addiction 🙃

[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago

Dopamine is dopamine.

[-] [email protected] 18 points 2 days ago

I got the whole package, AuDHD, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, IBS, anxiety and sometimes depression. Sometimes, I wonder how the fuck did I make it this far in life before being diagnosed.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago

I've got all of that except instead I'm super duper good at math and math is fun and I love it

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

It feels like we could make a compelling chart a person can roll on to determine which of these things they'll be bad at, and which they'll be good at.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago

I honestly fear anyone who doesn't have depression or anxiety in the current economic and political environment

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

True, but its usually a neuro/psych origin with adhd ppl, in addition to the environmental that everyone should have if theyre not a monster.

My crew: ADHD, BPD, autism, general anxiety disorder and greater depression.

Though I am pretty sure the last two are just caused by the first three bullies.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Pretty much. Beta blockers help the jitters and at least take the anxiety down a couple notches. No idea if I get to add autism to the list, but I wouldn't be particularly surprised. There is a lot of overlap between the two.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Because of the overlap, I sometimes want to get a second opinion on my diagnosis. This article kinda helps with the feeling of "I can't possibly have all of these things, can I?"

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Nothing wrong with getting another assessment, especially if everything was diagnosed at once, or out of order, if that makes sense? Sometimes it takes a bit of treatment/meds to detangle the bin of labels.

At the end of the day, if you can get the support you need and any documentation for the harpies, you are already ahead. Now, getting good support? That costs extra with a side of doubt, some F, and +2 to anxiety.

[-] [email protected] 14 points 2 days ago

It's like a bundle pack, we can't resist a good deal: "Would you like some Generalised Anxiety Disorder with that? 50% off when you get ADHD"

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

This is my mom picking my traits in the character creator screen.. she was cheap but called it frugal.

Well we want smart so let’s add that, oh but it’s cheaper if we buy the autDHD brand! It’s just as good and half the price!

We want good at something, oh hey look there’s good at everything on sale.. fine print says can’t stick with anything, but I’m sure it’ll be fine!

Oh, those two traits are locked in and have unintended interactions like anxiety and depression.. well this is going to be a bumpy run but the challenge is half the fun right?

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago

No, your ADHD has fwends 😉

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Ah, so close. At least they're living their best life ✨

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I believe this. I got bipolar depression, insomnia, anxiety, and I think a little bit of autism on the side as well!

I use cannabis to help with the autism and insomnia, and Kratom for the depression and anxiety. Caffeine and l-theanine for the ADHD. I wish I could get Adderall.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

My extra unwanted friend is bipolar disorder type 2. It was great when they put me on Citalopram without so much as a checkup at University. I cut myself off after about a year. Fast forward a few years after to find out that is a very bad idea to give to people who have BPD, not that the university knew what was wrong with me...

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

My ADHD has more friends than I do

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I have the anxiety and depression plugins, and I can’t uninstall them.

Also, ADHD meds really fuck my mood up, so I can’t take them. Wins all around!

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Sounds like a glass that's half-full to me.
