That's awful - Colombia seemed to be finally turning things around.

[-] Danitos@reddthat.com -2 points 9 months ago

Yeah, things hace been getting worse since current presidente got into office.

It actually started under the previous president, Duque. He really messed up the peace process. What we are seeing now is the escalation of that. People mistakenly attritbute it all to Petro. See the book "Plomo es lo que viene?"

Whi could have forseen that President Dooky would be a real piece of shit?

If the brain damage is severe enough he may be able to find a backdoor into American politics now.

There’s always someone who relates something back to US politics.

This is a weird one to me. Petro isn't a radical leftist, he seems committed to peace and bridging the gap between the separatist guerilla factions and the national government.

Could this be one of the guerilla factions trying to kill the Uribe legacy before they take power again?

Furthermore, the only angle I can see is this guy trying to return to a more right wing liberal order and the guerillas are not going for it. Or this kid just wanted to be famous, idk.

Petro is a rather radical leftist in Colombia's context. However I agree, it doesn't make muchos se se forma him to order this, specially since this is gping to hace a negative effect con his ratings.

There's some hipothesis, but none of them have evidence:

  1. Guerillas/criminal armed groups. Miguel Uribe's discourse was heavily against them

  2. People from his own party. This is a huge blow to Petro, and possibly unificates the right.

  3. Leftist party: I don't see this one making sense, but is Colombia, nothing would surprise me.

  4. Other business: he comes from a powerful and corrupt family, that has ties with narcotrafficants.

Something interesting is that the hitman, a 15 year old boy, tells to people who captured him when asked about who contracted him that "I will tell you the numbers".

That's all interesting, especially that this might unite the right. If he lives it would make him a martyr for reactionaries in national politics. I'll try to keep an eye on this.

Very scary what's happening there. I worry about what comes next.

[-] KurtVonnegut@mander.xyz 5 points 9 months ago

To be fair, local social leaders are killed all the time by narcos and paramilitaries. Its all sad but why cry harder about this rich right wing guy.

[-] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Not because of the victim but because exactly what you've said. The political killings are getting back to like they were at the worst of times.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 10 points 9 months ago

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also condemned the shooting as a "direct threat to democracy".

🤮
