I expect you to die, Mr Bond

He's the man. The man with the mine-das touch.

Minefinger!

Pretty girl, beware of his numbered tiles: they all are mined!

The truth you won't find!

Look behind

This square, it's fine!

Never mind....

Guess.

Minesweeper is notorious for having some luck to it. The key is trying to do the 100% luck parts as early as possible so you don't waste time doing the rest of the board only to fail later.

Minesweeper is notorious for having some luck to it.

There's guess-free versions that guarantee solvable games. There's also ones that automatically place a mine on the clicked tile if you take an unnecessary guess. Personally I really like https://davidnhill.github.io/JSMinesweeper with only "Fast mode" (and optionally "No guess") enabled and everything else off.

Gotta do the edges first, the squares on the edges have less information

[-] ReiRose@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

The same as actual minesweeping

A metaphor for life. Do everything right, die anyway.

Time to find out your luck stat for the day

  1. Guess

  2. Say "dammit"

Well don't leave us hanging! Did you die?

Congratulate yourself for the win.

Play a better version, this one is supposed to not have this problem https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/js/mines.html or this one https://pwmarcz.pl/kaboom/ which will punish you for guessing if there's only one valid option, it places the mines as you play.

50/50 chance, take a wild guess.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 year ago

This is the thrill of the sweep right here you'll never feel a rush like this again

Use a better minesweeper algorithm? Or flip a coin.

[-] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago

Remove a flag from one of the mines and click it

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I go by what I think would look better. Top one being a mine would look better imo, so I would flag it and click the one below it.

[-] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Solid approach. BOOM!!

[-] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

You get a fair-play Minesweeper-like, such as Hexcells Infinite, which can always be beaten without any guessing.

[-] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Check out Dragonsweeper! It's a dungeoncrawler twist on minesweeper that also has a 100% determinable layout (once you understand the mechanics/behaviors)

Now is time for a Hail Marry.

The minefield has been cleared. You fence of the remaining space with appropriate warning signs. Once the marked sights are disarmed the area can again be made available to the public and the nation can begin to heal.

Memory dump to save your state then reload after you pick the wrong one.
