Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
  • Β

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

I think the abundance of trans women (β‰ˆ women who were raised as boys) is proof the social conditioning the only factor in why there aren't more women in STEM fields. Women love this shit just as much as men, but they're actively steered away from it.

(Yes, women face other challenges beyond lack of exposure, but I think all of them can be traced back to social factors as well, such as how men are conditioned to treat women.)

Furry sysadmin and trans girl reporting here lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 59 minutes ago (1 children)

It's either "how it looks" or "what it looks like". You can't mix and match.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 minutes ago

Thank you, came here to say this. It really feels like people are fighting over having the worst grammar, like there's something to win from it. Even basic stuff like this is apparently too hard to comprehend.

It is, with the best meme security problem that came to my mind.

It needs way more gawdy neon color palettes.

I swear half these people with blogs pick the most aggressive bright pink and greens when building their websites from scratch for the first time and then just stick with it!

I am contributing to the "trans girls everywhere for some reason"

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 hours ago

I'll never forget dialling into a work meeting with the corporate infosec team who we needed some guidance from.

Their rep shows up and it's a fem-presenting person with pink cat-ear headphones.

I'm like oh fuck they sent the big guns, this is exactly who we needed to talk to. And I was right, we got exactly what we needed.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

The old adage "The worst-dressed nerd in the meeting is the most important one" could use some updating for the modern era to include trans folks with really good fits...

How could you forget the weebs?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 hours ago

Also didn't include the 'old guard', the meme was just too small, or doesn't have enough recognizable details respectively (and putting them in heaven had bad implications).

You're Indian tech software from the 80's setting the kernel mailing list on fire?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Your name matches the comment directly above.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 hours ago

    Ya, Linux...

I would argue that's the cool part. You also have the average hyper racist neo-reactionary Suckless fossid user who thinks daring to write in anything other than C is "gay" or smth.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 13 minutes ago

As a gay trans man, looking down on people who code in anything other than C is my toxic masculinity. Don’t let reactionaries take it away from me.

You’re not a real man if you use an IDE. Vim and gcc were good enough for the founding fathers (D & R), they’re good enough for me.

I had a discussion with someone who was of the belief that anyone that doesn't build their own packages and reads the documentation is a lazy retard that doesn't know what they're installing on their computer.

    That was a fun conversation

What did Suckless ever do to you ??πŸ˜…

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 hours ago

What does suckless have to do with that?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 hours ago

Absolutely beautiful. Happy to be a part of this community and still learning every day.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

This is mostly true, especially in communities like this. I do know a couple of guys who are the complete opposite politically - ultra conservative Christians. But when they need forum support and encounter this part of the community it just makes them stronger in their opinion that the world needs Jesus.
