I'll watch anything with Viola Davis. She tricked me into watching Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. It's a great movie and she played the role really well, but that was a rough movie to watch.
My mom's answer would be Walton Goggins, but I'd have to agree cause man that guy can change characters of a dime. From his crazy almost feral killer character from American Ultra, to his character from The Unicorn, to Vice Principals, to Fallout, the guy is damn near a chameleon.
Yeah, Goggins' stole the show every damn time he was on screen in Justified. Great actor.
These days, it's Alan Tudyk for me. For movies and tv shows.
He has been in some of the most bizarre and ridiculous concepts, but he still always makes them a delight to watch, even as a supporting character.
I haven't been disappointed yet, even if it's bound to happen eventually.

Jon Bernthal, of late. I first saw him in the Walking Dead where I kind of hated him, but then saw him in a couple other things (especially Punisher) and realized what a good actor he is. That's happened a few times actually, I really hated Brad Pitt in Se7en (that wasn't wrath, that was a fucking bad hair day), but then saw him in 12 Monkeys and was like 'Oh wait'.
Have you watched The Bear!? I "hated" Jon Bernthal until I saw him in The Bear, and he won me over through sheer goddamn chops. Man.

If you've never watched The Rover, I would highly recommend it. Guy Pearce is excellent in it, but Pattinson's performance really hit home that he can truly act.

Dude, seriously. For the longest time I only knew him as the vampire in Twilight (which I'd never even seen) and wrote him off immediately. Then I saw him in High Life and was like 'Oh wait a minute, this guy is pretty good actually'. I even liked him in Batman. I'm glad he's outgrowing his Twilight association.
Ah, the stigma and hatred around newly released fantasy romcoms targeted to women. Also the reinvention of the vampire that most people would probably wish had stayed in an obscure YA novel rather than become cinematic history.
I was always team Wolf but I developed an interest in real vampire culture because of Twilight.

I liked Twilight 2, actually. Just happened to see it in the right moment that it worked for me. Never watched the rest of the series though
Felicity Jones and Rachel McAdams. Either of those two are in something and it's an immediate watch for me. Odds are in their favor it's going to be decent if they signed on for it, and their acting abilities are top notch for me
I'll be intrigued if any of these are in the cast.
But they've all been cast in plenty of films films I don't care about (e.g. Hopkins in Transformers and Thor, Murray in Garfield and Jungle Book) so it's not even remotely a guarantee.

Galaxy Quest
This should be required viewing. Such a bummer we lost Alan Rickman too early and missed put on a sequel.
Galaxy Quest is one of those movies that imo is perfect as-is, like we don't need a sequel or else it would dilute it kinda thing.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is one of my favorites. Despite the fact that I'm not usually a rom-com guy, I actually liked Mr. Right.
Rockwell and Bale in a buddy cop movie and I'm there opening night.
Ed Norton is an automatic sign that even if the movie sucks, it'll be worth watching once just for his performance.

I think Nicholas Cage is a fine actor, but he's not a great actor IMO. Especially in the last 10-20 years, I feel like he's developed some subtlety but the roles he's taken have all been fuckin' weird. Mostly I like his older work like Raising Arizona, Con Air, Face/Off, etc.

Tom Hanks, maybe. I used to say "he's never done a bad movie" but then I saw his WWII movie that aired on AppleTV
-I don't know if any actors are good enough to pull me in like that. There are however, a couple of major directors that guarantee I am going to the theatre. Guillermo Del Toro is probably the most likely one that comes to mind. Ridley Scott and James Cameron are likely to get me in the theatre as well.
