Zambia is a country of 20 million people, located in southern Africa. Breaking free from British rule in the 1960s, the new government was a one party state ruled by the socialist UNIP party with its leader Kenneth Kaunda, who was a strong supporter of the Non-Aligned Movement (and was its chairman from 1970-73). Its economy has been and remains characterised by copper exports - it is the second-largest copper exporter in Africa - and the economy deeply struggled in the 1970s due to the price of copper plunging. After the fall of the USSR, and due to violent protests, Kaunda stepped down and instituted a multiparty democracy, which has been maintained without (successful) coups to this day, though there are warnings by the leader that some are plotting a coup, given the trend right now.^AA^

Earlier this year, in June, Zambia struck a deal to restructure the $6.3 billion in debt that they are burdened with, of which China is the single largest creditor.^Reuters^ Though he has typically been more West-friendly, last week, President Hichilema traveled to China for two days, meeting with various companies, and Xi Jinping himself. They elevated their relationship to that of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.^Xinhua^ He and Xi have agreed to the increased use of local currencies in trade.^BB^

Hichilema said Zambia thanks China for supporting the African Union's entry into the G20 and China's positive role in resolving the Zambian debt issue. The Zambian side abides by the one-China principle, highly appreciates the guiding philosophy and principles of Chinese modernization, and hopes to learn from China's development experience.

Hichilema has also said:^AN^

"We can do more, faster, because the needs are tremendous in Zambia. I heard some of the solutions are here. All we need to do is to combine the two together."

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.

https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Cocaine hitler is back on CBS' 60 minutes show that's 60 minutes too long to say live that America and Ukraine's the only countries capable of ending Russia's unchecked global warmongering and that if America doesn't start ww3 then Russia will invade the Baltic and Poland and start ww3

Raise your hands if you rolled your eyes at the sheer irony of the phrase that America must stop "Russian President Vladimir Putin’s further global aggression."

Maduro Says Venezuela’s Domestic Trade to Grow 40% By 2023 maduro-coffee

The South American country maintains a path of economic growth with a "continuous and consecutive growth of eight quarters," said Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela's domestic trade will reach 40 percent growth by the end of 2023, according to estimates offered Thursday by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

"With the closing of the last quarter: October, November and December and the arrival of Christmas, domestic trade will have a 40 percent growth in its activity, which shows a powerful vigor," said the president.

During a meeting of the National Council of Economy in Caracas, Maduro said that the activation of the different development sectors has given results of growth.

In this sense, he brought up the pharmaceutical sector which has grown 13%, lubricants33 %, footwear12 %, tires 3% and wood and paper 10.6%, while in the food sector 101% more vegetable oil has been produced, 2% more sugar and 7.44% more chicken.

The president said that Venezuela maintains a path of economic growth, with "a continuous and consecutive growth of eight quarters."

He added that there are sectors that must be constantly reviewed such as food, pharmaceuticals and tax collection. The President called for an increased effort to promote a culture of tax responsibility.

Maduro highlighted that in the last 12 months tax collection reached US$ 3,551 million between January and August, 24.1 % more than in the same period last year. In reference to bank credit, Maduro stated that it grew 84 percent in the last 12 months, between August 2022 and 2023.

The Venezuelan president also estimated to close the year with the production of one million barrels of oil per day (bdp) and is confident that in 2024 it will reach two million. "We recovered all the refineries, we can still grow more in refined production," Maduro said, and acknowledged the growth that has been forged from "our own effort."

The president also highlighted the work that has been carried out in the petrochemical industry, which "had been practically paralyzed" due to the sanctions and which today has recovered by 90 percent.

Kadyrov has woken up from his nap.

“I strongly advise anyone incapable of telling the truth from a lie on the internet to take a walk in the open and clear their heads,” the Chechen leader wrote in a Telegram post featuring a video of himself walking in the rain. “The rain is wonderfully invigorating,” he added.

On Friday, Ukrainian news outlet Obozrevatel claimed that Kadyrov “had fallen into a coma,” citing a spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence, Andrey Yusov, who claimed that the Chechen leader had seen his “existing illness worsened,” leading to a “serious condition.”

Yusov added that Ukrainian intelligence confirmed this information through “various sources in medical and political circles.”

I'm exiting my three day exile from my bed after spending the entire time cooking my brain at like 105-110 Fahrenheit and in a lot of pain I haven't felt in years to drag myself to the posting trenches to bully libs once more.

It coincidentally comes from the same place that complains to the high heavens about everything being political memes, but then turns around and posts political memes

Is ISW just making this stuff up? It seems like there's mixed messaging as far as 'how things are going' reportage goes. NYT is saying they may have reached this line, ISW says they're operating beyond it and calling this a potential breach of "the final line of defense" while Hersh is saying they've basically stopped? Just fog of war stuff?

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 year ago

ISW is run by Bush-Cheney era Neocons. Nobody else is reporting anything like this, so I'm calling bullshit.

Chances we'll get a new SOAD EP now that Armenia is at war again?
