I think the cross and skull could easily be used as gang symbolism to represent the 1 and 3. It's not that far fetched.
Personally I never looked deeper than the poorly photoshopped MS13 on his hands and I thought it was ridiculous Trump would believe it. But now that I realize the MSPaint is labels for the symbols:
-M on marijuana
-S on a smile.
-1 on a cross.
-3 on a skull.
it does actually kind of make sense in the cryptic symbolism of gang tattoos. If I were LE I would 100% believe that to be a marker of MS-13. Especially since MS-13 is notorious for using publicly visible tattoos to brand their members as a way to intimidate the public and prevent members from being able to leave.
I think Trump et al are absolutely going to do horrible things. But they're starting with sympathetic causes and choosing their targets so the lines are incrementally crossed one at a time. In the case of Garcia he has two very important features, 1 - he is not an American citizen, and 2 - he (probably) is actually an MS-13 member. (And it really seems like Bukele wanted him in particular, even having reached out to Trump prior to inauguration.)
But the next step is to deport citizens as we've seen with those little girls getting deported with their mother. They use that as the excuse, but the fact is at least one of those girls had a father in the US who was a citizen and they should have had the option to stay with him by default.
What comes next? Deporting citizens who are just criminals? I bet Trump is going to find someone (brown) who is a violent convicted criminal. Then the next will be someone (brown) who is a non-violent convicted criminal. Then someone (white) who is a violent convicted criminal. Then fill in the blanks until we get to someone who was never convicted of anything except not bending the knee.

Also the point here is trump is actually stupid enough to think those letters are real. And no one corrected him. Someone lead him to believe those are tattoos although maybe he put them there himself. Either way you’re looking at someone fooled him to be so cruel or he tampered with evidence himself to be cruel.
Either way: this is a human right being stripped away illegally by a president with intention of slaughter and you should be absolutely worried .

I was talking with a colleague about this. They’ve had a lot of “gang culture” exposure.
Their opinion was it wasn’t a MS13 tattoo.
They said MS13 tattoos were notorious for being massive and blatant, not secretive and subtle.
They elaborated that gang tattoos are used for “repping” and need to be immediately clear who you’re repping for, otherwise it defeats the purpose of showing reputation and providing protection.

Huh? It doesn't look like they're trying to say the text itself is the tattoo, it looks like they're trying to say the tattoos mean MS-13. The blurry stuff below the tattoos seems to be explaining that it's Marijuana for M, smile for S, and some other explanation for why a cross and skull are a 1 and 3, but it's too blurry for me to see. It's bullshit, but it's not so blatantly obviously made up as superimposed text on a picture of a dude's hand being passed off as a tattoo.
That was the purpose, but Trump misinterpreted it and thought it was actually part of the tattoo and doubled down on it.
I'm 50% sure he did that on purpose so his followers can see how stupid everyone who disagrees with Trump is for not understanding it's about the symbols.

That is not even the whole quote. The rest of it makes it even more clear as he insists it is "the letter m, the letter s, the number 1, the number 3".
I made and sold thousands of fake IDs with Adobe Photoshop in the late 1990s. This is shitty work. It would be so easy to fade and blur the M S 1 3 to match the tattoos he really has and the resolution of the photo. This looks like a 14 year old spent 10 minutes on it. If you bought one of my IDs while visiting Hawaii when you were a teenager, you're welcome.

I haven't seen his finger tattoos until just now, and it's blatantly obvious that MS13 is MS Paint'ed on. Even a small child wouldn't be fooled.
But what I don't get are those words below the pictures. Surely that is too small to write legibly as a tattoo, so they must also be photoshopped? Especially because they are a slightly different color and aren't lined up correctly.
I'm trying to read the words... "Marijuana" "Smiley" "Cross" and probably "Skull". So, that would be MSCS, not MS13. That means that he has a Master of Science in Computer Science degree, I think. Just like me.
I don't know where they got the numbers from. A cross isn't a "1". If anything, it's a "t". Maybe if we could see around the edge, we'd see something that starts with K, and it just turns out that he's a fan of MST3K.

That brings up two things.
First, if you're covering up gang tattoos, I'm pretty sure that means you're not in the gang. The claim was that he was a gang member. If he's not a current gang member, and has committed no gang crimes domestically, and has no extradition request to El Salvador, then all of their phoney baloney reasons don't even hold up on their own.
But second, even if you don't accept that he must not be in MS13, then like you said, it's ridiculous to think that the skull is a cover up for a 3. Looking around the rest, we can see that there is no cover up for the "S". It's just a smile. The "M" doesn't look like a cover up, either. So, what they're asking us to believe is that he had a tattoo that said "marijuana", "smile", "1", "3", and despite still being in the gang, covered up the "1" and the "3". As if the thing he supposedly covered up wasn't cryptic enough. He must have suddenly just become paranoid.
So in the first case, it's impossible to believe that they have a good reason to think he's in MS13. And in the second case, it's impossible to believe that they have a good reason to think that he'd cover up his tattoo.
I think any reasonable person would look at this picture and see it as evidence fabricated after the fact to hide that he was the victim of a crime by the federal government.
Not gonna lie... i'm such a 90s guy, my brain immediately went to Wingdings for those tats...

but i think it's just a very poor placement of the government's interpretation of the four individual tattoos, which should have been a separate call-out box that left the photograph itself unaltered.

The most "worrisome" one to people would be death, but being that the cross is a symbol of where people crusified gods messenger, maybe that is more worrisome. Does someone have a reference to where these claims came from to bring a gang?
