FYI both Corona and Bud Lite are products, not companies.

Anheuser-Busch (the company that produces both beers you mentioned) experienced no discernible loss in revenue from kidd rock shooting cans of beer, or the COVID-19 pandemic.

Per Newsweek

"In the week ending June 3, Bud Light's sales revenue—the brand's dollar income—was down 24.4 percent compared to the same week a year ago."

"The company's global CEO, Michel Doukeris, said on May 4 that the declining Bud Light sales represented about 1 percent of Anheuser-Busch's global volume.

This guardian link states that Anhesuser-Busch sales have dropped 25%, seems like that would affect it.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is incorrect.

Sales of Bud Light and Budweiser dropped 24.6% and 9.2%,

This is a drop in sales of the product, not the company as a whole.

Would be interesting to know if any of their other offerings experienced an increase in sales

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

You think the people protesting bud for this are smart enough to know the difference and not buy something else by them? I'd be shocked if we could pick 10 protestors and more than 2 hadn't bought another product by them.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I asked this question of some family members who know people who protested Bud Lite. They said everyone was switching to Miller and Coors instead of Busch, because Busch is also AB InBev.

So at least some of the people upset about the trans thing knew enough to avoid the company, not the brand.

Which shouldn’t be surprising. People are people everywhere, even if they have some misguided views it doesn’t mean they’re idiots in every aspect of their lives. It’s important to remember that, otherwise it’s very easy to dehumanize those you disagree with.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

A lot of people on social media are acting like this boycott didn't work. It totally did. Love it or hate it, it worked.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a good thing these people are dehumanizing others

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m specifically advocating against dehumanization.

You can’t fight fire with fire.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can't fight intolerance with tolerance though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can’t fight intolerance with tolerance though.

I never said you should. I’m merely saying that we need to remember that the person being intolerant is a person, with the same complexities and nuances as every other person. I’m saying we ought to fight a lack of understanding by being understanding. We should fight intolerance with kindness and correction rather than combativeness.

When possible and within reason, obviously. But if our first response to intolerance is shunning and judgement, then there is no path to tolerance for that individual. If our goal is to improve society, it cannot be done with spite and punishment as the initial tools.

I wouldn’t be who I am today if people had decided not to engage with my youthful intolerance in a way that led me to think more.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well that's very high minded of you, and I applaud your energy for this. I, however, no longer have the time nor the energy to engage with those kind of people. The difference between you and they is that you engaged in good faith and were willing to learn. They engage in bad faith and are only trying to disrupt and divide.

Kick them out and move on. They can learn by standing out in the cold. My kindness is reserved for those who abide by our social contract.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

My original point was that saying something like this:

You think the people protesting bud for this are smart enough to know the difference and not buy something else by them? I'd be shocked if we could pick 10 protestors and more than 2 hadn't bought another product by them.

isn’t realistic or helpful. That it’s important to remember that people aren’t automatically stupid or lesser just because they are ignorant or misguided. It doesn’t take much energy to remember that even those who are intolerant are still people.

Whether you want to engage with them is a different story entirely! I know I rarely have the energy for it these days.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

And if the margins on those other products are better...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Almost certainly. They boycotted Bud Light and rushed out to buy one of the 9000 other beers AB makes.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Right but are you sure it was the trans thing and not the fact that bud light tastes like beaver piss?

I can’t believe they boast that they use rice in it. It’s literally a filler.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why do you know what beaver piss tastes like?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago
  1. Cite your point of reference, please.

  2. Rice ferments at a specific rate, and lower than hops. During Prohibition, this was used in lawmaking to stamp out smaller breweries as only the lower rate was allowed (no mention of how to do so; eg. rice) and thus only the corpo breweries with either the capital to reconfigure their production process or the machines already in place (yes, some already were, and had a direct hand in said lawmaking) survived the era.

Conclusion: Only fascists and idiots drink beaver piss.

[–] [email protected] 66 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Man, the people who say everyone’s way too obsessed with trans people are way too obsessed with trans people.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago

Exactly, their "crime" was just sending custom can to an influencer hoping she would promote it to their fan base. It's not like they create a special team's batch or something.

Anyway when this unexpectedly backfired they refused to back her up when she started getting hate mail, which also turned back her fans and right now everyone is bad at them.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They lost some sales right now because they chose chaos and pissed off everyone. Also they are AB InBev and let’s be real they’re gonna be fine.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh for sure, people have a short memory.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

The thing is, nobody sensible drinks that piss beer including myself so none of this matters in the slightest to me - but it's cool that the republicans are all patting themselves on the back for it I guess :)

This dude just makes random shit up in the shower.

I don't know how Corona did, but Bud Light does appear to be struggling. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/29/business/bud-light-sales.html

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I bought Corona so much during the pandemic. My boss would always call me and ask how my weekend was, and I would tell him, I got Corona. He would tell me to take a week off. Best purchase ever.

Weird, this mention didn't show up in my notifications.

Good context. It'd take one hell of a boycott to impact global sales. AB is huge.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a huge overlap between those who are obsessed with trans people and those who think COVID-19 was a hoax.

You know... morons.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Man really just analysed the entire american alchohol market in his mind while rubbing in shampoo.

This aint no shower thought.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Corona wasn't supporting the virus, it just happened to have the same name. If Corona experienced any loss of sales because of the name then people are incredibly stupid.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Losing sales because of partnering with a spokesperson with different sexual identity is worse.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

And it wasn't even a full partnership, it was a single commemorative can. No one else in the world had that one can, there were no plans to sell more.

But the absolute worst thing was when AB InBev decided to walk back their tepid support of trans rights over the backlash. They pissed off the bigots for doing what was basically nothing, and then disavowed that nothing into pissing off the LGBT+ and general left leaning community.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think just partnering with any random trans person is what upset people- but I might be wrong

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

All this is telling me is that who ever was in charge of Corona PR was mouth breathing clown... I suspect a boomer.
