Why can nobody read or spell anymore? Wtf is happening

[-] [email protected] 46 points 1 month ago

Gen A got left behind on spelling and grammar. Too much of it that they use is automated, they find grammar to be lame, and thanks to our "pass kids or lose funding" system of public schools they all just get to coast through while not really learning much.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah, my Gen A kids can't read at all. They only know half their letters...shameful

[-] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago

Not to put too fine a point on it but whose fault is that?

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Danged gen z/late millennial parents not teaching their kids the alphabet before/during kindergarten.

Lol

It's a joke, bro. They're not in school yet. Most of Gen alpha is still very young.

Alpha, the one after Gen Z, which is after Millennials, which is after Gen X, which was named that not because it was the 24th, but because they didn't have a good name so they used X as a placeholder for an unknown name.

Generations are slightly bullshit tho. Birthdate definitely matters, but it more of a continuum / spectrum than discrete generations.

There's definite bleed over , and the differences are loose generalities than facts, but there's definite patterns that emerge between music, fashion, and technology.

Like how gen Z and especially A can't really use computers or understand file structure well, or that mellennials are the last gen who mostly know cursive. Or how anti bully gen z is compared to earlier gens.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

There's a huge divide in computer literacy between first and second half gen Z.

No, but your spelling is.

"Hello hotline? I've been feeling pretty blue lately and thought about dyeing that way. Can you give me any tips to be sure I don't mess it up?"

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Gotta remember to use the right concentration of bleach.

Marge Simpson in shambles.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Excuse me, she is an all-natural bluehead. She definitely does NOT have a stash of #56 dye hidden in the upstairs closet!

[-] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago

The word for dying hair is spelled dye, searching "how to die" triggered the bot.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 1 month ago

Y'all ever feel like those messages are just to keep their worker drones alive? Like do tech companies actually give s shit? I'm sorry if that's controversial and no i'm not suicidal.

[-] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

Absolutely, I hate this shit. It feels incredibly fake and overbearing if it’s an automatic/“broadcast” message.

Sometimes it’s designed so that it’s actively dangerous too. I said “Siri, kill me” to my phone and it started calling emergency services. Are they trying to get people fined for abuse?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

This is still better than actually answering the question, though.

Funny, I experimented with DDG, and they gave me a wikiHow with instructions on how to spend your final days if you know you're dying. I guess the search engine makes all the difference.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

I once searched for whale song on YouTube and got one of those.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Can confirm - yes. It would look that bad. Or maybe it’s just my face.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

It was probably the shade of blue that didn't suit your coloration. If you really did want blue hair, there is likely a shade that would harmonize with your features better.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

This got a literal laugh out of me

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Is that the traditional or modern definition of “literal”?

Honestly, it took me a minute. Then a laugh.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

It could be worse. People use the Reddit suicide report feature to report a post and basically tell people to kill themselves as an insult/troll. You basically have to put that notification on ignore.

This is apparently a MAGA thing that they do.
