Discussion questions:

What video games have you played recently?

and

What are your favorite video game genres?

Question of the week:

What games of 2025 are you enjoying right now, if any?

and

What do you think of the recent Nintendo Direct? And the upcoming one on April 2nd? And, once the Direct airs, what did you think of it? (Last question is for when it airs in the future.)

I got Victoria 3 after that reddit post appeared asking why the petite bourgeoisie become so racist during times of turmoil. After watching a couple of tutorials, I think I've gotten a grasp of the game. Just replaying the Sweden tutorial until I make it to the end, aiming for small achievements here and there to set a small goal.

I have to stop playing a I stayed up all night playing on Sunday - noticed it was 7am and had to go to work..

Otherwise my wife and I are almost done with our second playthrough of Baldurs Gate 3. We really sped through after taking months to finish our first. Probably gonna do a third once the new patch comes out.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a godsend. Good taste.

I haven’t played any games recently due to school, but once I am off/during Spring term I hope to get back into playing Fields of Mistria and other games I got on my steam deck like Dead Rising. I am also looking forward to playing REPO. I do not know how to determine my favourite genres because I am fairly eclectic.

I liked the most recent direct but I will say that most of the games did not interest me, which makes sense, so I am looking forward to the next one. I am excited for Pokemon legends ZA, Witchbrook, Story of Seasons, and Tomodachi life 2. Tomodachi life was a big part of my childhood and I am looking forward to playing it again with better graphics and hopefully gay marriage, I really hated having to make one of the miis the opposite gender just so they could get together.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, I've heard of REPO but the analog horror aspect might be offputting to me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I do not know much about analog horror. It seems similar to Lethal Company but even more comedic due to the cartoony graphics and eye programming. I just think it’ll be nice to play with friends, especially on mic.

Recently got 8 or so games in the last sale, but I'm incredibly busy with school and doing "more useful stuff" like reading theory. But I really want to get started on Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, Citizen Sleeper or Disco Elysium... As for genres I'm not picky, but I love when there's lessons to be learnt in a game (I'm one of those people yes). That and Yakuza series lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hope you enjoy each and every one of them.

Thanks, hope you are well too :)

Super hyped for the new raids in FFXIV. I really want to go in as Black Mage but I'm not sure if I'll be doing well enough to prog with it.

I've also been playing Octopath Traveler on the side. The burst system makes the turn based combat far more engaging to me for some reason.

I'm not playing any 2025 games, in fact the only game I even know that released this year is the new Assassin's Creed, and I quit that series a long time ago.

I don't care for nintendo games, so all I know it's that there has been a new metroid announced.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I should restart FFXIV again.

Been replaying some Azur Lane lately.

Since they have so many whales I would appreciate more free features, ngl.

I've been bouncing between games a lot the last few months trying to find something to hyperfocus on.

I tried Going Medieval for a bit. Its a medieval rimworld clone in 3d. Its ok but too easy and needs a lot of fleshing out.

I played some Delta V Rings of Saturn. Its a 2d top down asteroid mining game. Sounds kinda lame but its pretty good. The physics are done really well. (No friction 100% preservation of inertia) On the one hand it is really calm and peaceful and low stress... until you are trying to catch a beacon that is spinning and every time you fail to get it through your cargo bay doors you add more velocity to it and then the next thing you know you are screaming through the asteroid belt dodging giant hunks of ice where its just a matter of time before you crash.
The story is pretty thin to non existent so I got bored. Its one of those games where the grind is the game and the loop does end up getting a bit dull.

I tried Jusant. Its a rock climbing sim that tries to do thing where the lore is imbedded in notes between people. Its not bad. It makes you control each arm as you climb. Kinda like how death stranding had you control your leaning so you don't fall over.

Played a bit of Star wars Episode 1 Racer which I hadn't played in like 20 years. Fucking wato had me cracking up. "outlanders, they come here, how do they find me, they come here, they mess up my store"

Also played a bit of Darkforces remaster.

Played a bit of the latest Medieval Dynasty update. The towns have been fleshed out so they look more lived in. The new bandit camps are good, The new weapons and armor are pretty cool, I think there might have been some positive changes to the AI because the animals and bandits seem a bit more tricksy. I imagine these upgraded bandits will be really rough in the early game.

And then the last few days I have been playing X4. X2 was pretty good X3 pissed me off with the tiny UI so I never got into it. X4 seems pretty good but we will see.

Star Wars Episode 1 Racer is a game my childhood self loved and I would vouch for anyone playing that game. It really is great.

Just finished playing Shadowrun Hong Kong, can definitely recommend if you enjoy RPGs with tactical combat. Started playing Killer Frequency. It's a pretty clever concept, and only around 5-9 hours to finish. Can also recommend Turbo Overkill, which I finished recently. A truly amazing boomer shooter.

I tend to enjoy games that are story focused, and not too grindy.

Haven't really kept up with Nintendo. Haven't touched my Switch since I got the Steam Deck.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I too enjoy Turbo Overkill a lot but I'm only maybe halfway through. :/ I stopped playing because for some reason I started getting this weird sound bug where all audio cuts out for 5 - 10 seconds and then comes back and is fine for like a minute until it cuts out again. I've tried everything. No matter what I do it just keeps happening and it only tends to happen on the Windows version of Unity games in general I've noticed. I've combed the web for answers but only found a couple people with a similar problem with no answers, or answers that don't work for me.

If only they released a Linux native version. Linux native Unity games are completely fine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Oh that sucks, I've been playing it on Steam Deck and haven't run into any show stopping bugs with Proton emulation for it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah, the Switch and likely the Switch 2 will still be outclassed by the Steam Deck.

I feel the same way, though I still keep up with Nintendo, especially since they have their own exclusives.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah their exclusives is really what makes the platform worth it, I spent many hours on mario kart :)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I could use another good racing game right about now, tbh. Maybe Wreckfest 2 when it's out.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I haven't played any decent racing games in a while.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I feel that; to me, the open-world ones are where it's at, but people barely do that anymore

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I find the problem with open world games tends to be that it's really hard to have any depth in them. Since the player can go anywhere and do quests in whatever order they stumble upon them, it's hard to have interesting progression and development of the world. I find I prefer the hub model Bioware uses where you have sort of open worldy segments that are stitched together into an overarching story.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

That latter point is especially the case; the progression aspect is definitely a problem.

Yeah, I agree with the BioWare approach.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (3 children)

@Makan Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Best purchase I've made this year.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Played thru it on launch, strong 9/10.

Only downer was I wish the combat system was just a bit better, it was too easy to cheese.

I also wish I waited till the hardcore mode was out, it would have been nice to play it with less UI, no map position, no fast travel.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

@ghost_of_faso3 yeah, after you learn master strike you can just spam it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 22 hours ago

It was so bad that it ended up making all other weapon classes redundant, the combat balance in general was very poor with the sword or short sword being the only viable options.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I loved the first one. I've had the second one installed fpr almost 2 months but for some reason I just haven't felt like playing it yet.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I've heard absolutely great things about this immersive sim and what I hear is what I love about immersive sims. I might get Atomfall though.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Been playing with new God of war

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

God of War or God of War Ragnarök, to be exact?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm really looking forward to Rhythm heaven groove! It's the only game that caught my attention and I'm glad that the series got another entry after the last one on 3ds a lifetime ago.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Good luck with Temtem and eventually Rhythm Heaven Groove.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm currently playing Avowed, which does not deserve the hate it got - it's really fun. Also picked up Inzoi.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I have a good feeling about playing Avowed, but for now, I'll play Rise of the Ronin.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

For the record:

I'm still playing Dynasty Warriors Origins, but will probably move on to focusing on Silent Hill 2 Remake soon.

I plan to play Rise of the Ronin next.

Been really deep in Aneurism IV. Still play a bit of Helldivers 2 and I started renting a Vintage Story server

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

A game called Aneurism IV. Huh. Fancy that.

I have yet to play Helldivers 2.
