They probably weren't thinking about it at all and took the trolley back on auto pilot. Then they turned around and realised thay had walked way too far, cringed internally, and hoped noone noticed. You noticed and you chose to mske fun of them for it. Confirming that those of us riddled with anxiety are correct to feel constant shame about every minor mistake we make. Thanks.

I can't throw the cart into the corral and see if I can make them stick together inside the store.

It's called job creation!

As long as they're bringing back their cart, I don't see the issue

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago

Yeah, they probably saw that one and think it's closer. As long as the cart is put back it shouldn't be an issue. If the corral is too far back then whoever design this parking space is at fault.

At least they didn't just leave it in the closest empty parking space, like literally everyone around here does. 😡

"They've got people for that."

They were probably getting some extra exercise. For some people, just increasing light activity is their opening strategy for getting fit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 14 hours ago

And they were helping others getting some exercise. A true saint.

Hey cut our friend some slack, it's probably PTSD from covid. Gather round, grandpas gonna tell a story..

There was a time you see, when it was not allowed to return your cart at the store as they had to be cleaned, you had to return it at the corral with the other biohazards.

They say that out there in the masses, some are still mentally in lockdown.

Little did OP know that while they were watching this strange performance unfold, the other guy was sneaking up behind OP and stole their wallet.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

That's very funny, but I've actually got my wallet, right.. oh shit

It was a sophisticated drug transaction, and that play was intended to distract you.
Success.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

Instead of distracting me, they could've made a new customer.

My wife will do this when driving. She will drive the complete opposite direction from where we need to go and if I dare ask "Why are we driving AWAY from x?" she gets mad at me for pointing it out.

I had a school kid who only knew how to get home by following the bus route. Maybe it's like that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Distance travelled is not the only metric by which you can judge a route. Others include:

  • Traffic
  • Traffic lights or other stops, since it’s nicer to drive uninterrupted.
  • What turns you need to make (2 left turns over 6 lanes of traffic? Pass)
  • Familiarity
  • Road condition
  • The view

I don't remember having an issue with this when I pushed carts, but it was a long time ago and I suspect if I saw someone do this I would have pouted about it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 hours ago

I did carts for a little while, I wouldn't have cared at all. If one person leaves a cart out, everyone feels like they can. It's crazy how it just instantly becomes acceptable when everyone sees one cart out. But will walk then back when there isn't
