what exactly is causing that?
I think that the modern practice of astrology is intentionally vague on this point because you're supposed to fill in the blank yourself. Whether you believe in psychic energy or spiritual power or guardian angels, you can nevertheless participate in astrology and most importantly purchase astrological tchotchkes ranging from telescopes to tarot cards to shiny crystals.

It's calipers. In the current culture it's calipers for her. I hate the commercialization of estorica. You should have to join some sort of order and take a blood oath to abstain from marketing and social media to do it. Esoterica used to be a contest for who can be the weirdest guy and come up with the hottest take. But in the modern era a lot of it is complaining about other races, complaining about boyfriends or cheat codes for women. The gnostics were so good at it they all got murdered.
The zodiac signs aren't constellations, they are 12 pie-slices of the sky named after their most prominent constellations.

It's a sky based memory palace passed along through oral tradition. In order to ensure each realm of the palace is unique and individual they must be archetypal representations, putting as much distance in concepts between each other as possible. Given that these are humans creating these palaces they're going to project the sensory experiences they have available that fit those criteria. Nowadays they're called associations. That's going to include things like incense for smell, ritual food sacrifices for taste, and most importantly emotional connections and experiences that frame their understanding about the world. Chakras and the Tree of Life are body based Memory Palaces, working the same way.
The point is to remember that as the skies above us are determinate as a clockwork function of the universe, so are we living below.
