Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?

Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.

Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

After talking with some friends I feel the need to return to this site with a reminder for the folks here that social media is virtual reality and not to get too caught up in it. Take some time to love yourself and develop skills, enroll in your local vocational school, learn a language, or connect with your community.
The beauty of the internet is that we as humans today have access to knowledge amounts that our ancestors could only dream of. The horror of the internet is that we piss it away in virtual reality caskets.
Every social media platform, every website is designed to be addictive and trigger emotional outbursts.

I was under the belief that hexbear and lemmygrad were "different" from other social media platforms, and of course they are in many ways. But after all the effort I put into educating people on this platform, just for the mass of conquistadors to turn around wielding yankee-centric xenophobic nonsense at every turn, I finally learned my lesson that this platform was a little more than a form of escapism while functioning as self harm for me.
Good luck EMPOC community and maybe we'll meet in meatspace one day.

My white coworkers who were born here constantly make jokes about being deported and being "stripped" of their citizenship because it's so fucking funny when you know it'll never happen to you
We could probably change that if we do enough praxis. Deport a few white chuds as a treat for retaking Turtle Island.
I'd rather spend energy protecting and advocating for people who actually need it
I'm white and all my great great grandparents were born here, will ending birthright citizenship result in me personally being deported??? 🥺 i feel the need to take up resources for actual undocumented immigrants, can someone please take the time to comfort me instead of helping those dirty immigrants that don't deserve to be here, unlike me 🥺

On one hand, nothing rlly dampens my day more than hearing how much historical leverage the U.S still has, especially over Colombia and Mexico, when it comes to deportation flights. 
Yea we are still pretty much its satellites, on the bright side this whole situation may lead to more latam integration and solidarity with the Celac emergency meeting and México and Brazil finally having both center left govs, which would lead to a weakening of USA influence in the region
I'm really praying this can happen.
Yeah we’re either in for an amazing next couple of years as more govts in latam fly left or we have a very depressing future ahead with coups and color revolution.

70,000,000+ people died in WWII because of the Axis Powers. The total number of people killed in the Crusades is around ~10 million, which is still less than the number of people killed in the Holocaust (17 million).
Maaaaaaaaaaybe you could make an argument for colonialism killing more people than WWII, but that was fueled by nationalism and capitalism just as much as it was religion. Then you start factoring in different countries, rulers, and time periods. What Hitler, Hirohito, Tojo, and Mussolini did, however, was completely unprecedented in scope considering how shortly they were in power.
Where the fuck did she come from? Is there a secret Vichy hideout somewhere we don't know about where they train undercover agents to have the worst takes imaginable?

I’m curious which country from the global south has the most users on here. To me it seems like it would be Mexico or Brazil.
Well, have we checked our ethnic minority demographics? Extrapolating from the Global South, prolly a lot of Asians (East, South, Southeast etc.), so maybe Chinese or Indian...
