Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

What can I post?

Hello em poc comrades! Today I bring a quote from the Samidoun Network on the ceasefire in Gaza and the hostage exchange, the "Flood of the Free".

Our strength and our unity comes from standing together against repression, and for liberation, not in allowing our enemies to cut us off from one another through a politics that seeks accommodation within genocidal imperialism, self-censorship and subordination. It is, at the core, the armed resistance, the Palestinian prisoners, and of course, the people of Gaza, who exposed Zionism and imperialism and brought down all of their military objectives, who are opening the doors of freedom for the heroic prisoners of the cause of Palestine, and who promise a Palestinian future that will be determined only by the people and not by its occupiers, invaders and enemies. This is an indelible stamp and a historical moment upon the road to liberation and return for all of Palestine, brought ever closer.

And from RNN Prisoners:

The current exchange deal, “Flood of the Free,” represents a milestone in our struggle and an added victory to the long march of liberation, affirming that the will for freedom is stronger than all the jailer’s chains.

Long Live Palestine! From the River to the Sea!

As always, this thread is em poc only.

Yt people brushing off that salute as a roman salute is driving me up a wall. The guy has that shit pinned on his twitter and is proud of it. Absolute joke westerners are

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Insert sartre-pipe quote on anti-semites

If they felt threatened by it, they would've treated the 2nd salute as a confirmation of fascism, a la gender-reveal.

Incredibly that ideology alone in a short time has killed more yts than all the boogeyman minorities combined in history. Even if you take out groups they didn't think of as yt

Already tired of DEI conversations. White people swear minorities(Black folk) only get hired because of the programs. They whine that even qualified Black people are getting hired because they're Black. They swear there's an unspoken quota they need to meet. I've yet to be in a job with more than 5 Black people.

Was there even an increase to the Black labor force after these DEI programs? I only saw more HR training.

"Quota" allegations are silly because quotas haven't been legal in decades (Regents of the University of California v. Bakke, 1978). This is a law that favors white people and they could sue their employers for discrimination if there are actual racial quotas in place. Actual AA is more about preventing discriminatory interview questions or hiring practices. It's the reason employers can't ask what religion you belong to, whether or not you're pregnant, married, or specifically require you to list your ethnicity (though they can ask). Of course, a lot of these are ignored or are used to skirt around the law and discriminate anyway.

The real reason they won't take things to court is because they're full of shit and they know they're full of shit. It's white people complaining they have to put 75% of the effort vs. the 50% they were doing before while minorities are expected to give 110%.

I'd be interested in seeing the numbers by sector. I would think not though.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

Before that it was affirmative action and they’ll probably claim HR is cucked by woke or something inane like that

joined a discord server of trans xhs users because i wanted to talk to trans people in china, but then some (probably white) person in there started arguing that anti-white racism exists, and while other users pushed back there was no mod action 😬 same user singled out chinese culture as inherently misogynistic. i left.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 months ago

God I wish we lived in the world reactionaries think we do lol. What if there really was systemic, anti-white racism organized by militant, commie, feminist, LGBTQ+ overlords? Sounds based af.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I want all peoples to be free, and particularly I want black people to be free.

I think the next four years we are gonna see a shift to a whole new gear of the extraction from black and brown nations across the globe. I'm not on some doomer shit, but I do think the global south is in for a bad time and it sucks. I really think we are going to see a new dress on the old evil of colonialism. Both physically, culturally, and digitally.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Many of us in the global south are already seeing our countries slowly break apart from climate change. I think Guatemala will only have a little over half of the country being left inhabitable by the end of the century.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

deeper-sadness recovery over the ashes, I suppose.

Huh, funny

There is a logic here, and it’s the same exact logic that would later find expression in the genocidal Nazi project. It’s a logic which enables us to understand why those antisemites continued to pursue extermination even after their hopes of territorial conquest were extinguished. To paraphrase Che Guevara’s last words: they were trying to kill an idea.

When they're resorting to tactics like that, something tells me that base of society is shifting under its imperialist western capitalist masters. After all,

Imperialism’s self-interest, a system based on creating instability, cannot create a stable situation for its self-perpetuation.

I'm this close to kidnapping white people and cannibalizing them 🤏

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

you are what you eat, dont let the devil inside you !

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

In fact I was on my way to a sanatorium to convalesce when a native scout told me a curious story. Man eats the flesh of another, he takes the other man's strength, absorbs his spirit. Well. Naturally I just had to try. Consequently I ate the scout first and you know he was absolutely right. I grew stronger. Tuberculosis? Vanished. As did the headaches and the black thoughts. I returned that spring happy. And healthy. And virile...

Ravenous, Colonel Ives' quote on wendigo-esque cannibalism

Idk... not-built-for-this they're not exactly healthy

I have to admit, I was feeling down and angry yesterday that this racist was inaugurated for his second term and the Buddy in Chief was Seig Heiling his dead loser of a leader's memory on MLK Day. As someone else on Hexbear said, MLK warned us about White moderates so many years ago and called it. But we goose stepped into this regardless and it's sad how history can intersect through time on a day honoring him like this.

I don't care about the institutions that liberals shed tears for, but I was worried about the coming dangers for so many of us. Some of the immediate executive orders also made me feel like it's only going to get rougher. I know we already lived in the Fourth burgerReich but I do think it will escalate and some of us will be forced to leave. Felt sad that so many people side against their own interests for the benefit of the fascistic elite, despite so many hundreds of years of workers fighting and dying for them to gain even a little consciousness. Then again, I don't regret not supporting Biden/Harris because they didn't deserve support either but libs won't understand that. As long as Palestinians had even a few days of reprieve, I think it's worth it. In truth, I was pissed at libs for enabling and allowing this to happen as MLK almost predicted. They'll blame us for not casting a symbolic, meaningless vote but they are the ones to blame for this.

Anyway, it's not good revolutionary practice but I took a gummy and watched a film and felt much better. We'll deal with it as it comes but, unfortunately, no organizations are actually ready for it if/when it turns violent. Wish you comrades here in the empire the best once the violence turns inward again. I'm going to set up a go-bag and some other stuff.

Slavery apologia like “I sympathise with this slaver who treated slaves well and educated them, gave them a better life than I have currently” with multiple upbears. agony-deep

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago

ಠ_ಠ

Do people not know about things like house slaves who did things like cooking and looking after children? And those same slaves were also the ones who frequently poisoned their masters' food? Like...regardless of whatever they were "given," it still doesn't make up for being owned and there's a reason they joined in revolts.

Then there's stuff like Roman slaves who were sometimes given nice clothes and jewelry to wear so their masters could show off how much money they had. Those same slaves still joined Spartacus' rebellion because being property is fucking horrifying.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

Oh no, not that justification for slaverycringe

“I sympathise with this slaver who treated slaves well and educated them, gave them a better life than I have currently”

Tf, GalaxyBrain? catgirl-disgust

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

if open slavery in the U.S. wasn't abolished, it would've been a controversial topic.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Most recent US election, liberal Californians voted to keep slavery for things like fighting fires.

Ppl talking about don't normalize nazi behavior but for so many years online I've seen so many Americans casually wish they nuked the middle east or china and say albrite said nothing wrong about starving iraqi children. And not just chuds, many of these so called "progressive" liberals. That flowery bullshit "wholesome" buzzfeed adulting speak phase trying to appear sensitive for a few years doesn't fool me

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Can't forget how so many of these same people also said that Azov weren't Nazis or believed that they had kick all of the Nazis out. Or how they kept on saying that all of those Nazi symbols weren't really Nazi symbols.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh them finding out the memorial of communist victims was chock full of nazis

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Imagine "Shadow of Innsmouth", but replace the theme of fishmen with WW2 fascist collaborators

still convincing me that all settler wealth everywhere should have been confiscated by the state especially to prevent this mf from becoming what he is today

Nelson Mandela was sadly too nice on the white south africans

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

fr, settlers (descendants included) do not have any right - legal or generational - to exploit or continue to live on exploits from colonialism.

i know zimbabwe did try forcefully removing settlers (though that screwed up the previous, colonial economics of the country from fast land takeovers), but more countries should have tried so as well

[–] [email protected] 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Knowing the history of the Weimer Republic is like the Greek myth of Cassandra. Like clockwork, liberals are out trying to hand wave this away. They have completely committed to maintaining civility, decorum, and procedure.

Even Obama was at Trump's inauguration. Michelle Obama decided not to go, but a bunch of other democrats were there, including the Clintons. Pence, being the worm he is, was present also. Like half of these people Trump has viciously mocked or literally tried to have killed, yet there they are.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This charade is comedy. Liberals are the most violent fucks around.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

And what is more true, Liberals and Conservatives are more of a bickering couple than a rival.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

By the time this planet becomes a hellscape that cannot support a large portion of the population due to settler avarice it will be too late.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

unfortunately yea

So was last month's struggle session and Luigi posting from that one mod resolved? I thought there was supposed to be a follow-up thread from that person about their time off. I don't mean to stir shit. It's just a question of what was learned since said mod is now back to being a mod.

Holy shit I knew Adams had decided to attend Trump's inauguration, but he really justified not going to MLK day events by saying his life is the life MLK was talking about in his "I have a dream" speech. My brother in Christ, you are fucking cop. You would have beat, locked him up and called him an "outside agitator"data-laughing

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Thinking about how fucked things might get and just how people will go along with it just because of the vibes. Someone, also empoc, had been talking about how Trump was going to deport all of the illegal immigrants during election season. Recently they were telling me of how there are places that have become less crowded/lively because people have started hiding from ICE. And they go "ah, well its unfortunate that there are probably some good people caught up in this, but that's what happens when there are bad people ruining it for everyone else." Just like thatdoomer

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

Sad thing is that this is also a common talking point in Guatemala, especially in towns like mine which is a pretty popular stopping point for migrants trying to reach the US. People hate them and will try to pick them off if they go anywhere near their home. I remember a guy getting burned alive at one point. It’s going to get pretty bad over here if they get deported back to this particular region.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

We should takeover ICE and start deporting white people back to Europe. "Sorry but being born here no longer means you're a citizen because we've decided to bring back the Iroquois Confederacy."

"What? Nooo! We meant the other Confederacy! How could this be happening to me?"
