On an article about Meta on ArsTechnica I saw this comment and I realized... holy shit. Sad, but absolutely correct.
I quit social media outside of hexbear and tumblr. Facebook by far is the worst, it's like twitter bad just with boomers, who are even more hateful than 14 year old groypers.

They specifically made removed not a slur anymore. It is now explicitly okay to call children transphobic slurs.

For one, they enjoy the hate it's like a catharsis, and two, they're constantly re-affirmed of their hate on social media, which tells them that all of those groups are immoral, evil and must be exterminated. It's a feedback loop of hate.
It's rooted in misogyny and connected to white supremacy. The existence of LGBTQ+ people shows there are more categories than cishit, which goes against men being the head of the family with the wife being accountable for domestic responsibilities. Non-white societies often had no issues with LGBTQ+ people, or even venerated certain types of queerness. When white people came to colonize, they started by undermining religions and social norms. That meant demonizing anything outside of patriarchal heternormativity. This was further enforced due to how lineage works. Everything passes down from father to oldest son.
Fast forward to today and most of this shit is still in place. Queerness delegitimizes the power structure reactionaries cling to. Reactionaries may or may not be aware this is what they're trying to accomplish. It has become so ingrained within their psyche they lash out as a natural reflex. It is exactly as you say: "Me macho tough guy! Me crush puny weaklings threatening the hierarchy!"
There are/were non-white cultures that did have issues with queer people as well (and memes about transgender priestesses are... highly reductive). Patriarchy was widespread and arguably universal, but with significant local differences. And attitudes towards gender and sexuality are going to be affected by family structure, which is going to be affected by the mode of production and its development.
So like yes it's white supremacist because capitalism and its ideologies emerged in Europe, but it's not hard to imagine a counterfactual Earth where Song leftists are lamenting Han supremacist attitudes towards trans people and talking about the revered European travesty.
But yes ultimately queerness destabilizes power structures.
