I don't know if I am alone in this, but when I see the strange ironic (I assume) phrenology of Italians and other lower order western countries here I cannot help but feel they would be doing the same to people like me if it was socially acceptable here
Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.
What can I post?
- Anything you think is relevant to the mission of this community. Things will evolve over time.

Had a good laugh with my mom, we where making tortillas and were confused why the "flour" was so off and not working. Turns out it was maseca so we ended up making gorditas
fuuuuuck, now I gotta make some gorditas. It's been too long since I've had some quality
cw typical cracker food racism
This has also awakened a memory from middle school when the Spanish class teacher asked the kids what their favorite latam foods were. I had close family friends from Mexico who would make disgustingly good gorditas. Had a lovely little family restaurant that sadly shut down a little later :( They were my favorite food period as a kid, and of course when it comes time for me to answer what my favorite food is, I answer "gorditas" and this midwestern cracker teacher scoffs, rolls her eyes, and says "Taco Bell doesn't count, I mean real dishes". Actually got laughed at in class lmao, topic moved on with socially inept autistic me trying to explain that no, it's a "real food".
OH! thoughts on an empoc only reading group? only poc people made it to the end of wretched of the earth last time anyway. maybe a place to talk about a more controversial work amongst ourselves without any cracker input?
It's difficult to choose but I would say Fanon's Wretched of the Earth. Classic. Shit, I should read it again myself. It's on my long list of re-reads, it's been like over a decade.
How about you?
oh i lead a reading group on Wretched of the Earth about a year ago, maybe its time for another one? and honeslty idk i have to keep thinking.
the Dandadan fans in twitter became a klan meeting over fanart
now everyone is calling them Klankaklan
Greetings comrades. I hope this work week will be chill. My cold seems almost gone so thats nice.
How do people handle the weird racism imposter syndrome thing (I don't know if it actually has a name)? Like how do you tell the difference between something being your fault vs. racism? For example, not getting hired for a job. How do you know if it was because you genuinely weren't qualified or if it's because of discrimination?
I struggle with this a lot where there's this nagging feeling in the back of my mind where I'm second guessing myself trying to figure out which problem it is. It'd be a lot easier if whitey was just upfront about their racism and just used slurs so I know I can disregard what they think.
Also, is there any synthesized theory about American socialism? Even people who aren't explicitly socialist can probably teach us some things about material conditions here in the US. I've been wondering if someone smarter than I am has compiled everything written/spoken by Einstein, MLK, Malcolm X, the BPP, Helen Keller, John Steinbeck, Dalton Trumbo, Earnest Hemingway, Upton Sinclair, etc. into one place.
