Frankly would rather that than coded religious messages that encourage bigotry. At least (some) of the negative effects of violence are usually shown - not so much when it comes to thinking you're better than others because you were told your Sky-Daddy said so.

Only if trying to actually educate your kids. Otherwise, there's the tried and true lazy/bad parenting method of only telling little Billy that "bad people need to be punished" and being surprised when he hits a classmate for taking his crayon.
